If you didn’t know, Underground Toys have the license to make Doctor Who figures. They have produced many figures since they got the license, including all the iterations of The Doctor. The two new figures that have just been revealed are the fourth doctor’s first appearance and a hologram of the tenth doctor.
To date there has been twelve doctors; William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, Peter Davidson, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann, Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi who is the current doctor.
In the doctor’s third final adventure “Planet of The Spiders” he is exposed to a massive deadly dose of radiation whilst battling the spiders on Metebelis III. The radiation causes him to regenerate into the fourth incarnation of the doctor. I have to say Tom Baker is my favorite version of the doctor. The likeness is impeccable it’s perfect they’ve captured Tom Baker’s likeness exactly.
Of course he’s wearing the third doctor’s clothes; it always happens when he regenerates. The detail throughout looks absolutely fantastic, which is incredible for a 5-inch figure.
The second figure is the tenth doctor in projected hologram form from one of my favorite episodes “Blink”, which was the first appearance of the Weeping Angels. He appears in holographic form in this episode, as he can’t reach Larry Nightingale and Sally Sparrow. I have to say this holographic figure looks excellent. I think translucent figures of late look pretty good. You can see David Tennant’s likeness clearly in the figure.
I haven’t got any of Underground Toys’ Doctor Who figures, but I have to say the likeness is great for 5-inch figures. Both figures don’t come with any accessories, unfortunately. For articulation, they feature ball jointed heads, swivel shoulders, swivel biceps, pin elbows, peg wrists, swivel waist, swivel and pin hips and hinged knees. So you can get these figures in a wide variety of poses.
These figures will be released in February 2015 and will retail for $15.99. They are currently available for pre-order now at Entertainment Earth, if interested.
