Today is Sunday and it’s time for a new edition of the Toy News Roundup. Here we round-up all of the most important toy news of the week from our site, and also link you to any toy news that we didn’t cover. Let’s see what the big toy news was this week, shall we?
CHECK OUT THE NEW NECA ROBOCOP
It’s been awhile since NECA first announced their Jet Pack Robocop action figure. This week they showed off what the figure can do in a new photo gallery. The figure should be available in your local stores now for about $20.
DARYL DIXON ARRIVES EXCLUSIVELY AT WALMART
Walmart wants to get in on the Funko Pop! vinyl figure action, as they have announced they will be having an exclusive Daryl Dixon Pop!, in black-and-white. Look for him in the electronics section of your local Walmart.
NO X-MEN DAYS OF FUTURE PAST ACTION FIGURES WILL BE MADE
Diamond Select Toys has confirmed that their Mystique action figure from X-Men: Days of Future Past has been cancelled. It’s a real shame because she would have been the only “action figure” from the movie to be made. Though, there is still a line of Minimates that might be worth pursuing if you are dying for something from that movie.
GENTLE GIANT BRINGS BACK THE GOLDEN STORMTROOPER
Ten years ago the folks at Gentle Giant got their start. In celebration of the big anniversary they are offering their members the chance to order a Chrome and Gold Stormtrooper bust as this year’s holiday item.
TOYS “R” US GET EXCLUSIVE COLORED SIN CITY ACTION FIGURES
Toys “R” Us is going to be getting their own exclusive colored versions of Marv (Mickey Rourke) and Hartigan (Bruce Willis) from the Sin City movie. They are packaged in more streamlined packaging, which is going to be interesting to see if other lines will get this new packaging as well.
THREEZERO ANNOUNCES LAST MAN STANDING GABRIEL 12-INCH FIGURE
It was on display at San Diego Comic-Con 2014, but this week Threezero officially announced the Gabriel sixth scale figure from Dan LuVisi’s LMS: Killbook of a Bounty Hunter graphic novel. If you aren’t familiar with the book, just look up some concept art online and you will be excited for the figure.
THE BOOK OF LIFE IS NEXT IN LINE FOR THE LEGACY COLLECTION TREATMENT
Not many websites have reported about it, but Funko’s next line of Legacy Collection figures is going to be based on The Book of Life animated movie. They also have a small line of Pop! vinyl figures as well.
OFFICIAL IMAGES OF PLAY ARTS KAI HAWKMAN AND DARKSEID
Square Enix has released the final product images of their next DC Universe Variant action figures, Hawkman and Darkseid. The stand around 10″ tall and come with various accessories. They are currently available for pre-order now.
HIGH-END TMNT 2014 MOVIE COLLECTIBLES COMING
If you like high-end collectibles (and I mean extremely high-end) and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles then you are going to want to check out Prime 1 Studio’s latest project. They have picked up the TMNT 2014 movie license and are going to be making statues!
THE LEGO GHOSTBUSTERS FIREHOUSE HQ MAY BECOME OFFICIAL
The latest fan-created Lego set on Lego Ideas has reached 10,000 supporters. The Lego Ghostbusters Firehouse HQ is now going to be reviewed by the Lego team to see if it can be released as an official set. The review happens in September.
DANCING GROOT TAKES CENTER STAGE
Dancing Groot in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy film has without a doubt become extremely popular. So popular that Hot Toys has decided to include him in all Groot and Rocket sixth scale figure 2-packs, the Sideshow Collectibles is going to get a second dancing Groot figure, but without arms. Pre-order this collectible figure set here.
PLAY IMAGINATIVE RELEASES OFFICIAL STATEMENT ABOUT THEIR PRODUCTS
Play Imaginative surprised many people last year when they pretty much came out of nowhere and announced a ton of diecast metal figures, all of which have extremely high price points. Some of the figures have been released already, but they have had some serious quality control issues with the final product, forcing them to do some fixing. They have released an official statement regarding the incident.
HOT TOYS’ FIRST TRANSFORMER FIGURE IS NOW AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER
Hot Toys’ very first Transformer 12-inch figure is now available for pre-order. The G1 Optimus Prime (Starscream Version) doesn’t actually transform, but man, it looks good. Pre-order it here.
TMNT 2014 MOVIE BOX SET COMES WITH RAPHAEL STATUE
The TMNT 2014 movie may have just hit theaters, but they are already getting ready for the DVD release. The special-edition box set is going to come with a Raphael Statue. Getting this statue is probably going to the the only way to get a decent collectible from the movie without breaking the bank.
TWO NEW FIGURES JOIN FUNKO’S HIKARI LINE
As part of Funko’s weekly Hikari Friday celebration, they revealed Premium Blaze Spider-Man and Mythos Skeletor Hikari vinyl figures. Spider-Man is going to be available everywhere, but Mythos Skeletor is an Entertainment Earth exclusive.
SURPRISE NES JASON VOORHEES MEGO STYLE FIGURE APPEARS IN TRU
This week NECA announced that Toys “R” Us has an exclusive Mego-style Jason Voorhees action figure based on his classic NES video game appearance. He’s starting to show up in stores now. Have you found him yet?
SECOND PRODUCTION RUN OF TMNT CLASSIC COLLECTION BEPOP AND ROCKSTEADY MAY BE CANCELLED
Big Bad Toy Store sent out an email to their customers who currently have pre-orders for the Classic Collection Bebop and Rocksteady action figures. The email said that Playmates Toys has cancelled the second production run of Bebop and Rocsteady until further notice due to the 1990 movie Turtles taking priority. It’s currently unknown if they will ever go back into production at this time.
