Toy News Roundup: ‘Force Awakens’, ‘Limited Edition Star Wars’, and Become a Jedi (with Yoda’s help)

Today is Sunday and it’s time for the 101st edition of the Toy News Roundup. Here we round-up all of the most important toy news of the week from our site, and also link you to any toy news that we didn’t cover. So let’s see what the big toy news was this week, shall we?

BLACK SERIES KYLO REN
Early on in the week, some images of Hasbro’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens figures started showing up online. One might think it’s a so-called “leak”, but I’m saying it was done on purpose.

EXPECT HAN AND CHEWIE SOON
Hot Toys released the final product photos for their Han Solo and Chewbacca sixth scale figures this week, indicating that we should be seeing them on our doorstep in a few short months. I don’t know about you, but I’m excited for them to arrive.

DIAMOND COMIC DISTRIBUTORS BECOMES MASTER DISTRUBUTOR FOR BANDAI AMERICA
Diamond released a press release this week announcing that they have become the master distributor for Bandai America products. This probably doesn’t mean much, but you may want to expect slightly higher product prices.

ICON HEROS TO MAKE ONCE UPON A TIME ACTION FIGURES
Fans of ABC’s hit show Once Upon A Time aren’t going to have to wait much longer for action figures, as Icon Heroes announced they would be making 6-inch figures from the show.

HOT TOYS IS TOO LATE TO THE FROZEN PARTY
Frozen came out about 2 years ago and Hot Toys is just now announcing a series of Cosbaby figures. A little late don’t you think?

NEW HULKBUSTER WITH JACKHAMMER ARM
Hot Toys also announced a new Artist Mix Hulkbuster with a jackhammer arm. The interesting thing about this figure is that it’s smaller than the first version they announced.

SYMBIOTE COSTUME SPIDER-MAN STATUE
If you were looking for a quality Symbiote Costume Spider-Man statue, Sideshow Collectibles has got you covered. It’s more or less just a variant of their Amazing Spider-Man statue that was recently released, but it’s still going to be worth it to many.

TONS OF STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS FIGURES REVEALED
If you do a search on eBay for “Force Awakens figure” you will see a number of listing for the new action figures that somehow popped out into the wild early. There are quite a few lots, revealing a ton of characters from the film and first wave of figures that should be available during Force Friday.

BOBA FETT GETS TO BE A HOT TOY
Hot Toys first showed their Boba Fett sixth scale figure at SDCC 2015, and just this week they officially announced him. While he didn’t have the Sarlacc diorama base at the convention, it looks like Hot Toys is releasing 2 versions, one with the Sarlacc diorama and one without. I dig it.

STAR WARS ELITE SERIES DIECAST ACTION FIGURES
At Disney’s D23 Expo, they revealed a set of Star Wars Elite Series Diecast action figures. They line is exclusive to Disney Stores and is limited to just 500 pieces. They are 6-inch fully articulated figures that were hand painted.

LET YODA TEACH YOU TO BE A JEDI MASTER
Toys “R” Us listed a new Star Wars Legendary Jedi Master Yoda toy that actually trains you to be a Jedi Master. It’s quite expensive, but I saw it at SDCC and was very tempting.

MATTEL UPDATES SCULPTING FOR THUNDERCATS LINE
Over on the MattyCollector.com forums they have provided fans an update about their Thundercats figures. They are revisiting the sculpting table to make them more cartoon-esque. Of course since we are talking about Mattel, someone always has to complain.

By Bryan Stewart

Bryan first discovered an appreciation for action figures at an early age, setting up elaborate GI Joe ant hill attacks, complete with firework pyrotechnics. Due to the high injury rate for the Joes, replacements were a constant necessity.
