Toy News Roundup: ‘Doctor Who’, ‘Lego’, ‘Star Wars’ and Tips for Better Action Figure Photos

Today is Sunday and it’s time for the 79th edition of the Toy News Roundup. Here we round-up all of the most important toy news of the week from our site, and also link you to any toy news that we didn’t cover. So, let’s see what the big toy news was this week, shall we?

IMPROVING YOUR ACTION FIGURE PHOTOGRAPHS
A great article went up on the site this week about taking better action figure photos. Both myself and Ryan give some great tips that could possibly bring your action figure photos to the next level.

SQUARE ENIX’S FIRST MARVEL PLAY ARTS KAI
It has been known for quite some time that Square Enix would eventually be adding a Marvel Collection to their Play Arts Kai line. This week they revealed the images and details for their first figure – Iron Man.

HOT TOYS INTRODUCES A DISAPPOINTING NEW COLLECTION
Early on in the week, Hot Toys announced that they would be revealing a new collection soon. After the collection was actually revealed, it was disappointing to say the least. Even if you dig the figure’s designs, I’m quite sure you aren’t going to dig the price.

MCFARLANE’S WALKING DEAD BUILDING SETS TO TAKE OVER RETAIL
McFarlane Toys’ The Walking Dead building sets have been a success since they launched in Toys “R” Us stores late last year. They are so successful that McFarlane is going to be distributing them in many more big box stores, and if that’s not enough, Walmart is going to get a few exclusive sets.

INTERSTELLAR FIGURES COMING FROM NECA
The Nuremberg Toy Fair was last weekend and NECA had Interstellar action figures on display. Though they aren’t the standard figure, but the retro cloth figures that NECA has been having some success with recently.

DIAMOND SELECT PREVIEWS TOY FAIR 2015 PRODUCTS
Toy Fair 2015 is next weekend and Diamond Select is going to be there in full force. This week they gave us a mini-preview of what they are going to have on display at the show. It’s worth checking out!

DOCTOR WHO GETS THE LEGO TREATMENT
The second 2014 Lego Ideas results came in this week, which revealed that Lego has chosen to go into full production with Doctor Who and Wall-E.

SIDESHOW HAS AN EXTREMLY EPIC RAYNOR FIGURE FROM STARCRAFT II
You may remember Sideshow’s Jim Raynor sixth scale figure from last year. He’s now getting ready to ship and Sideshow has released some new images. If you were on the fence about this figure, check out the images and maybe they help you make up your mind.

MEZCO SECURES THE BUGS BUNNY LICENSE
It’s rabbit season! Mezco Toyz has acquired the license to make Bugs Bunny collectibles. Look for them to start hitting stores in the 3rd quarter of 2015.

THE STORMTROOPERS ARE REPORTING FOR DUTY
Hot Toys’ Stormtrooper sixth scale figures were released in China this week, which gave us a ton of final product photos to drool over while we wait for the big release in North America. Though with the port shutdown, we may be waiting a while longer to add them to our collections.

“I’VE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT”
Sideshow Collectibles announced a new Alien collectible this week – the Space Jokey Maquette. Based on H.R. Giger’s creation from the movie, this statue is like nothing you have seen before. Or maybe it is.

CHECK OUT THE G.I. JOE COLLECTORS CONVENTION BORCHURE
The G.I. Joe Collectors Convention is set to be taking place the weekend of April 9 – 11, 2015. This week the club released the 2015 brochure for your viewing pleasure. The Con has also revealed the Tiger Force Dial-Tone figure.

BANDAI REVISITS GOBOTS IN THE HIGH-END FASHON
Word has come out this week that Bandai is planning to revisit GoBots by way of Machine Robo’s, which were the Japanese versions of the GoBots. They are being described as high-end releases, similar to the Masterpiece Transformers line.

NECA’S NEWEST VIDEO GAME FIGURE IS READY FOR A KNOCK OUT
NECA’s next video game appearance figure, Rocky, is about to be released. The toy company has taken the figure into the photo studio to give us a good look at the final product that should be shipping to your doorstep very soon!

MEGA MAN X DEMANDS YOUR SUPPORT ON KICKSTARTER
Trufoce Collectibles is a fairly new company on the action figure scene, so they are going to be taking to Kickstarter for one of their first major projects. They are making Mega Man X, but he’s not what you would typically expect from a Mega Man figure.

KOTOBUKIYA’S STAR WARS CELEBRATION ARTFX+ STATUES
Kotobukiya has announced their Star Wars Celebration 2015 collectible – R3-A2 and K-3PO ARTFX+ Statues. They are just repaints of your already released droids, but they still might be picking up if you are going to the show.
