First revealed as a prototype earlier this year at Toy Fair, McFarlane Toys is proud to announce the fully painted limited edition Rick Grimes Resin statue. Based on a sketch drawn by The Walking Dead Creator Robert Kirkman, it has been fleshed out by the McFarlane Company in conjunction with Skybound Entertainment. Resulting in the most grizzly, gory, highly detailed & hand painted Walking Dead Statue to date.
As you can see the statue depicts a hardened, rough and harsher Rick Grimes fighting off three walkers each in a different method. Not only that there’s parts of the slain undead surrounding Rick strewn over the 360 degree base letting you know he’s single handedly fighting off a horde! Holding a walker in a full nelson, blasting a walker through the head with his Colt Python whilst booting it away and a wounded walker who’s fallen back with Rick’s hatchet embedded in his head with blood getting everywhere! You can really feel Rick’s anger in this piece and not just from his facial expression.
This statue measures 12 inches high and is made of resin. I’ve never read the comics but I know this statue is very faithful to the look of it. With Rick’s bearded look, bandaged stump and dirty clothes, which has become synonymous with the comic book series of late. His clothes look very detailed and dirty too with some creases and a bit of blood on his stump. On his belt you can his holster for his Colt Python.
The walkers themselves are just as detailed as Rick, with their pale bluish dead skin blending bone and flesh. With some of it torn away revealing rotten bloody sinew beneath which is very well detailed. They are also wearing some very torn frayed clothes. Also, the Full Nelson Walker has a bit of blood dripping from her mouth that has gone onto Rick’s bandaged stump and there’s some on her dress so she’s been chowing down on someone quite recently.
I love the split second effects on this statue and that being the bright orange bang from Rick’s Colt Python and the Walker who he has just fired at with half his face rearranged with brain matter coming out the back and a eyeball flying out of what’s left of it’s socket! It looks so well detailed, bloody, visceral and nasty – I love it.
This statue also comes in an Unpainted Artist Proof version, which is extremely rare, as only 50 have been made. Each statue also comes with a certificate of authenticity hand signed by Robert Kirkman and Todd McFarlane and individually numbered and will be released this October for a reasonable $295.
I should note this version of Rick will also be released in McFarlane Toys’ The Walking Dead Comic Book Series 3 figures, so if your a Walking Dead fan and can’t afford this statue, you’ll be able to get the figure instead but honestly I would give my right arm to get this statue.
