Square Enix Announces Play Arts Kai Variant Darth Maul Figure

Square Enix has announced that their next Play Arts Kai Variant figure is going to be no one other than Darth Maul. Just like with other Star Wars figures the company has done, Darth Maul is a ‘variant’, meaning they added a special Play Arts twist to the classic character design.

Though, unlike many of the figures they have announced so far, Darth Maul actually didn’t receive that big of a make over. Looking at the images below, you can clearly tell that it’s Darth Maul very much how he appeared in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.

The figure comes equipped with his trademark tattooed red skin (2 portraits), his dual red lightsaber, the split lightsabers, a figure stand, and multiple interchangeable hands.

While he doesn’t look so off the wall and out of this world like the Play Arts Kai Darth Vader, the Stormtrooper, or Boba Fett, this redesign is very well done. The figure is currently expected to start shipping in August for approximately $125. Pre-orders are currently available here.

Bryan first discovered an appreciation for action figures at an early age, setting up elaborate GI Joe ant hill attacks, complete with firework pyrotechnics. Due to the high injury rate for the Joes, replacements were a constant necessity.
