I only became invested in Sideshow Collectibles product a few years ago when they started doing 1:6 scale figures based on G.I. Joe and Cobra characters, and I immediately got drawn into that high-end 12″ world. I’ve managed to remain on the outskirts of it, though, only slightly touching those expensive collectibles occasionally. I always wondered, though, why Sideshow was so focused on premium format figures and statues when it came to the Marvel and DC Comics product and didn’t translate those great characters into 1:6 scale highly detailed action figures.
Well, I don’t have to wonder anymore. A short while ago, Sideshow Collectibles announced that they were making figures based on DC Comics characters, starting off with Batman and Superman, and not too long afterwards, word came that they would do the same with Marvel Comics characters. Interestingly, instead of starting out with a familiar behemoth like Spider-Man, Captain America, or Iron Man, the first Sideshow Collectibles product is the Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool!
Now, he will be joined shortly by Marvel Comics heavyweight Wolverine, so he’s certainly not headlining this new licensing initiative by himself, but even if he was, it’s off to a fantastic start. Sideshow Collectibles has done something really incredible here, taking a very unique comic-based character and translating him into 1:6 scale action figure perfection. Between the familiar expression on his sculpted face to the separate word balloons that you can pose him with, this figure truly represents the best (and worst) of Deadpool in action figure form.
