NECA Unveils Friday the 13th, Scream, and Iron Maiden Retro-Cloth Figures

Here we are in 2014 with retro-cloth action figures making a huge comeback. Who would have thought that would happen? A bunch of different toy manufacturers are taking on retro-cloth versions of characters, a trend that was made popular by MEGO in the 1970’s. Randy Falk, NECA’s director of product development, stated at the 2014 New York International Toy Fair that the toy company would be trying to release at least 1 retro cloth figure per month. With Halloween on the horizon in 6 months, NECA has released the details for a whole slew of new figures including various Friday the 13th, Scream, and Iron Maiden retro-cloth figures.

The first figure, Mummy Eddy, was created in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the classic metal masterpiece – Iron Maiden’s Powerslave. This 8 inch tall Eddie features a real metal chain that can be connected to the mouth or unhooked for when he breaks free. Mummy Eddie is also going to be coming with an alternate, unwrapped head sculpt that really shows the true beast hiding underneath the bandages.

For the Friday the 13th license, we are going to be seeing a brand new version of Jason as he appeared in Friday the 13th Part 2. Before the hockey mask became his go-to fashion accessory, Jason wore a canvas-like sack on his head which can be removed to reveal his deformed face underneath. For accessories, Jason is going to come equipped with a Pick Axe and Pitchfork, which are both completely faithful to the movie. The packaging is going to be a blister card with a removable clamshell and custom artwork.

The final figure for Halloween this year is going to be no one other than Ghost Face from the highly successful Scream motion pictures. His costume was modeled after the real life Ghost Face costume, featuring a tailored robe, hood and sleeves exactly like they appeared in the film. He comes with a screen accurate sculpted mask, 3 different interchangeable hands, a cell phone, voice changer, and his knife. Ghost Face also comes on a blister card with a removable clamshell and custom artwork.

Each of NECA’s new retro-cloth horror figures stand about 8 inches tall and comes with real fabric clothing. They are all going to be arriving in stores this September for around $30.
