NECA Terminator Kyle Reese Figure Review
Overall this figure was pretty cool. I was disappointed about the non-articulated legs but he looks great on display. Also, I felt the paint was a little off on his head, but the sculpt and paint is otherwise pretty solid. Also, I love the packaging.

I have the new series 3 Terminator figures that NECA just released and the first one that we are going to take a look at is the NECA Terminator Kyle Reese Figure Review. I was pretty excited about this figure but once I got him free from his plastic prison I was a little disappointed.
The other figures that I will be reviewing for this series are the T-800 (tanker truck pursuit) Terminator and the T-1000 (liquid nitrogen) Terminator.
It is hard to tell but from outside the package, the liquid nitrogen terminator might be promising. Let’s just hope I guess.
Packaging
The packaging for this guy is a little bit different coming from NECA. It is still a clamshell style packaging but it is slightly different. It is not just the clamshell. There is more of a card sticking out to the side of the figure. It is nice to see a change to the same old clamshell and then you get more graphics on the package too.
On the left side of the bubble, you get the Terminator and a quick text about it. Read it, it’s pretty great. The blister shows off the figure nicely and you should be able to spot any of the imperfections in the store.
I love this about NECA packaging. Behind the figure, there is some computer code on the background and targets and such. It fits well to the character/movie.
On the back of the packaging there is a bio of Kyle Reese and then you get a big shot of the figure and then also shots of the Tanker Truck Pursuit Terminator and the Endoskeleton figures that NECA has made. Overall I love the packaging and it’s great to see a little bit of a change.
Sculpt
Kyle Reese is probably one of the most badass characters in the Terminator movie series. He is human and he can still pull off some pretty wild things against the Terminator. In many people’s eyes, he is probably the best hero in the whole Terminator series. He’s got my vote.
His sculpt for the most part is pretty good. I think his paint is more off than his sculpt is. If you remember when he was actually wearing this outfit in the movie he looks pretty good. His jacket has some nice details sculpted in like buttons, seams, and creases. His shoes are pretty detailed with textures and laces. His pants look wrinkled along with his shirt.
There is something about his hair that bugs me. Maybe it’s just too think or maybe it’s just the paint job. I don’t know.
His hands are sculpted to hold onto his shotgun very tightly. You actually have to pry his hands open to make him hold onto it. I don’t mind this. I would rather pry his hands open then have him drop his weapon every time I try to move him. I didn’t take a picture like on the back of the packaging but in case you were wondering, it is possible. His hands are sculpted perfectly for that exact pose.
Oh, and for an added bonus he comes with a cardboard photo of his girl! I hate cardboard accessories. I hate this cardboard picture about as much as a hate the “collectable comic shot” that comes with the Marvel Universe figures now a days.
Paint
There is just ONE drop of tan paint slop on his arm. Not bad. The skin color seems like it was applied very generously and there is some extra in some places. I don’t really care for the color of the skin really, it is a kind of chalky brown color.
The jacket has a pretty solid green paint job and the inside is a darker grey color. The paint on his pants was also well done. The rainbow of colors dripping down his legs looks very natural. Finally, the paint on his shoes is extremely sharp.
For the most part, I like the paint job but I don’t think I like the paint that is on the head region.
Articulation
Articulation is the area that let me down. I was expecting this guy to have leg articulation but he doesn’t have any! He has:
- Ball joint head
- Swivel/hinge shoulders
- Swivel/hinge elbows
- Ball joint wrists
- Ball joint upper torso
- Ball joint waist
- Swivel ankles
The head moves left and right very nicely but up and down is pretty much non-existent. For the arms you can expect the full range of motion that any normal figure would have.
Then you get to the lower body and there is nothing except swivel ankles! Disappointed! That is all I have to say about that.
Overall
Overall this figure was pretty cool. I was disappointed about the non-articulated legs but he looks great on display. I’m not really one to really “play” with my figures anyways. Though I do like to put them in action poses… If you are a Terminator fan then you really have no choice but to get this guy. After all, he’s one of the best characters from the movie.
