NECA Prometheus Series 1 Engineer Chair Suit Figure Review

I received a shipment from NECA yesterday and guess what jumped out? Prometheus series 1 action figures! Today we are going to start with the NECA Prometheus Series 1 Engineer Chair Suit Figure Review.

If you are interested in this figure be sure to check out the other figure in the series, Engineer in Pressure Suit.

Packaging

For the packaging, you can expect the typical NECA clamshell. The background has “Prometheus” written along the top and in the middle, there is a wall with what looks like alien handwriting and the scene with all the dead Engineers in front of the closed door. The window is large and does a great job at showing off the figure on the shelf.
On the back of the card, you get some art of the figure and small movie snapshots in the triangles at the top. The text on the bottom is a quick summary about the movie and the director. I like the back of the packaging while the front seems a little bit boring.
The Engineer does not come with any accessories, which is a little bit of a let down but it is ok. After all the figure stands a towering 8.25″ tall. It is understandable that there are no accessories though they would be nice.

Out of The Box

Out of the box the figure looks great. He is slightly heavy but he is pretty solid. He does look a tad bit odd but you get used to it and he becomes awesome. I would call this more of an art toy rather than a real “toy”.
He has a ton of amazing sculpting and paint which I will get into later on.

Articulation

Articulation is pretty bad for this guy. He has ball joint head, shoulders, wrists, waist, and hips. Then he has swivel/hinge elbows and knees. Lastly, he has pivot ankles and swivel biceps. His head can only move left and right but not a full 360 degree turn due to the tubes coming out of his back. His shoulders seem to work nicely, moving a complete 360 degree circle.
I am not quite sure what NECA did to his hips. You can just swivel his legs at the hips joint and that is it. His pivot ankles don’t really work as well as I was hoping either. The good thing is that he can at least move his knees to 90 degrees. It is still a great figure just don’t expect to do any amazing poses.
His waist joint is also limited a little bit by the tubes on his waist. Not really a big deal though.

Paint

The paint, in my opinion, looks fantastic. Some people have been saying that it is a little bit too light but I think it is ok. This will only bother you if you are extremely anal. I really love the paint job and I don’t really see any problem areas or places to watch out for.

Sculpt

NECA’s sculptors knocked this guy out of the park with the sculpt. There is a great head sculpt and even details on the tubes coming from his head to his back. I am still finding details as a write this review. I will leave it up to you to find the rest!
His torso area was glued onto his body and it just adds to the sculpt. This torso piece has details all over the front and the back.
NECA killed it. Amazing figure aside from the articulation. It is a great representation of the Engineer in the movie. You should get this figure for sure if you are a fan of Prometheus, just don’t expect much from the articulation.
