A while ago I wrote an article on the most expensive toys. This time we are going to be looking at the most expensive action figures. Action figures can be worth as much as someone is willing to pay for them, as you will see in the list.
First up for the most expensive action figures we have:
Rocket Firing Boba Fett
This Boba Fett figure is equipped to fire rockets from his backpack. This figure was unique at the time it was produced. Now this is actually quite common for action figures. Kenner changed this firing rocket to a glued on version after a kid allegedly swallowed one and choked. This was never officially release by Kenner but there are a few prototypes around…
Worth as much as $2,000
1967 G.I. Joe Canadian Mountie
First up we have a 1967 G.I. Joe Canadian Mountie. A lot of people think of G.I. Joes as a US toy line, but G.I. Joe made it up to Canada by 1967 wearing a Canadian Mountie red coat. This Joe comes complete with a wide range of accessories including an ice pick, snowshoes, and a M1 rifle. If you have this G.I. Joe you can expect the value to be around $4,000 if you have him still in the box.
G.I. Joe Nurse
The G.I. Joe Nurse is next on the list. Yep, you read that right, a female G.I. Joe. This figure was a flop slightly due to toy stores now knowing weather to put the toy in the dolls or war toys section. A boxed figure now a days can fetch something around $6,000.
Telescoping Light-saber Darth Vader
When the Star Wars action figure hit the market in 1987 they were equipped with telescoping light-sabers as an accessory. This was very fragile and Kenner redesigned the accessory. There was not too many made but if you want to get your hands on one you can expect to be paying $7,000+.
McFarlane Toys Babe Ruth
With a fist look at this figure you would think its just another McFarlane ‘sports picks’ figure. But this Babe Ruth is very special. He is wearing a blue hat and only 5 of them were ever made. Three of the figures were released hidden in cases for retail. The other 2 are in the McFarlane Toys’ archives. When the first figure appeared it was placed on eBay and sold for $13,600. I think it would be worth even more today.
Mego Elastic Batman
Here is the Mego Elastic Batman by Mego! He looks and stretches like Stretch Armstrong. Mego made a bunch of stretchy figures including characters like Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, and Casper the ghost. Kenner was unimpressed and Mego was forced to drop the line. There may be 2 Batman figures around today and if you want one you should expect to pay $15,000+.
1963 G.I. Joe Prototype
We have seen this action figure before in the post about the most expensive toys. This G.I. Joe prototype was for the very first action figure in the world. He was sold in auction to the Steve Geppi (the founder of Diamond Comic Distributors) for $200,000. If you want to see him you can visit the Geppi’s Entertainment Museum in Baltimore, MD.
Great article !
