Mezco Toyz’ New Mortal Kombat X Action Figures Give Us Hope

With less that a week until the annual New York International Toy Fair kicks off we are starting to get a good look at some of the new toys that are scheduled for release in 2015. Mezco allowed some members of the press to take a look at what they will be offering thought the year, which includes new Mortal Kombat X action figures.

These new figures are the first few offerings based on the upcoming Mortal Kombat X video game that will be coming out of the Long Island based toy company, and is the first time ever that Mezco has taken on the Mortal Kombat license.

The first series of figures features the fan-favorite Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Raiden – all of which were digitally sculpted using the digital files from the game developers themselves. Standing about 6-inches tall, Mezco’s Mortal Kombat X figures feature 23 points of articulation, with many ball joints, allowing you to recreate your favorite moves and poses that helped define the characters as legends.

Scorpion, the hell-spawned specter, inexorably seeking vengeance against those responsible for the destruction of his clan and the death of his own family, is one of the game’s most popular characters.

Of course all ninjas need weapons and Scorpion has them. He comes complete with his spear tipped wrist chains, as well as 2 game accurate swords. He also has an additional pair of fighting hands for even more game accurate poses.

Sub-Zero. This icy assassin is one of the most cold-blooded of all Mortal Kombat characters , and just like each of the three figures in Mezco’s initial wave , is one of the few to be a playable character in every version of the game.

He’s also going to need the weapons that he’s famous for, so he comes complete with his game accurate hammer and sword as accessories.

Raiden, the eternal God of Thunder, is arguably one of the most powerful characters in all of Mortal Kombat, and just like each of the three figures in Mezco’s initial wave, is one of the few to be a playable character in every version of the game.

Of course even a God of Thunder needs weapons and Raiden has them. He comes complete with game accurate alternate hands, alternate lightning hands, and a lightening ball.

In the past I have pretty much disregard Mezco Toyz as an action figure manufacturer since many of their “action figures” have turned out much like statues, with limited to no articulation. Though it appears that Mezco is trying to change that view that I’m sure many others share with myself, as they just recently announced a 6-inch line, One:12 Collective, on top of these Mortal Kombat figures that has potential to change what 6-inch collectors want in their collections (more high-end figures).

These Mortal Kombat figures are inline with the quality that you can expect from companies like NECA, Hasbro, Mattel, and many others. Priced to sell at $22 each, they are currently available for pre-order here and should be shipping as soon as June 2015.

Note: Entertainment Earth has them listed at $19 each.

  1. Excited for these and the 1:12 stuff. Everything they have shown looks promising. These are even being released in 4 inch scale.

Hopefully they aren’t inline with recent Mattel offerings 🙁 That’s a story for another day.
