Marvel Select Ultron Figure Review
This Ultron is quite possibly one of the best figures that have come from Diamond Select’s Marvel offerings. This guy has AMAZING articulation, a great display base, and an almost flawless sculpt and paint job that portrays Ultron perfectly from the comic.

CLICK HEREMarvel Select Ultron came out back in the fall of 2012 and I really meant to pick him up back then but I guess I just didn’t get around to it. Well now I was finally able to get my hands on one of them and let me tell you, he really does deserve his spot on some people’s top toys of 2012 lists. Let me tell you just why the Marvel Select Ultron Figure is just that great, though.
Packaging
The packaging that Ultron comes in is the standard that you can expect to see any Marvel Select action figures come in now a days. You get a GIANT oversized bookend style packaging that is very appealing to MOC collectors (if you have the space for display I suppose). I love how the packaging is instantly recognizable as a Marvel Select figure in the store. You have the figure’s name going along the left side of the package and a huge window displaying the figure and any accessories that he might come with. On the left side of the package (my favorite part) there is always some fantastic art featuring the figure.
Sculpt
The sculpt of Ultron is pretty basic if you really want to get into the details. Though I must say it is completely comic accurate. The body is smooth and the different panels that are sculpted in look fantastic. He stands about 7.5 inches tall, maybe just a little bit too tall to fit in with your Marvel Legends – Or is he?
He comes with a display stand which depicts the aftermath of a battle. On the base you can see a broken wall, some dirt, Hawkeye’s arrows, and the best part, Ant Man and Wasp laying there unconscious. The stand is painted well, and even has a couple peg holes to help you pose Ultron on it.
Paint
If you don’t like silver then you are going to hate this guy. This guy pretty much only has silver paint. The good thing about the silver paint is that it was done right. It is a little bit of a matte sliver and not really shiny. His mouth and eyes are a metallic red color and look amazing in the right light.
My figure has a little bit of sloppy silver paint on the chest area but you can’t really tell unless you are close up. This problem could be easily solved if you were in the store when you bought the figure. All of the rest of the paint is spot on.
Articulation
This guy has so much articulation I was blown away. Possible nominee for the most articulated Marvel Select figure ever? As for articulation you can expect:
- Ball joint neck w/disk hinge
- Ball joint shoulders
- Bicep swivels
- Swivel/hinge elbows
- Swivel wrists
- Floating ab joint
- Ball joint hips
- Thigh swivel
- Double jointed knees
- Swivel at the top of ankle
- Rocker style ankles
Every joint on this figure functions as you would expect. The head/neck joint works notably well, allowing him to look in all directions without a problem. His shoulders are just slightly limited due to his shoulder pads, but really it’s no big deal. Another thing really worth noting is the floating ab joint. It works better than you would expect. The hips and ankles rival most Marvel Legends figures. Marvel Select Ultron for president!
Overall
Ultron is quite possibly one of the best figures that have come out of Diamond Select’s office to join the Marvel Select line up. This guy has AMAZING articulation, a great display base, and an even better sculpt that portrays Ultron perfectly from the comic. If you haven’t picked up a Marvel Select Ultron Figure yet then you are truly missing out. Now that he has been out for a while he doesn’t even cost too much. Even given the few flaws, he’s completely worth the small price tag.
