Limited Edition 8-Inch Captain America Retro Action Figure Set (Mego Inspired)

The response to Diamond Select Toys’ new Marvel retro line has been overwhelming, so much that fans have been quivering in anticipation of getting their hands on the next reproductions of the classic Marvel Mego action figures of yesteryear. We have already seen the Spider-Man box set and now DST is ready to present a Limited Edition 8-Inch Captain America Retro Action Figure Set!

I was able to talk to Zach Oat, the marketing supervisor for Diamond Select Toys, during San Diego Comic-Con 2014 about the new line. While he couldn’t reveal any other new figures other than what was in their display case at the show, he did say that all of their releases are going to have to be as box sets. Marvel wants the price point at $80, so giving you a solo release for $80 would be out of this world. So that’s where the box set idea came from.

This new box set features several different looks for the star-spangled hero, giving you action figures of either the World War II soldier Steve Rogers, or two different versions of Captain America himself.

The vintage Captain America figure comes packaged inside of a reproduction window-box,  alongside two alternate heads, two all-new costumes and a variety of accessories. It comes with both the original and classic shields, as well as a small booklet on the history of Megos!

These figures were designed and sculpted by EMCE Toys and will be available early next year. They retail for around $80, though many retailers, including this one, are selling them for less.

  1. I would love to see DC heroes follow with a Mego-like case as well. the ones released in 2011-2012 were cool but none had the accessories of this line. That said, Shazam/Captain Marvel and Black Adam were cool. I would love a Barman set like this one.
