Hot Toys Avengers Captain America Sixth Scale Figure Review

Hot Toys has been pounding out the Avengers line of Sixth Scale Figures lately and their most recent release is the Hot Toys Avengers Captain America Sixth Scale Figure.

This guy has been on the top of my list for most wanted Hot Toys figures for a while now, and he’s finally released! Hot Toys really knocked Captain America / Chris Evans out of the park with this figure.

There are just so many details that you will notice on Chris Evans that you definitely didn’t notice when you were watching the movie play back 100 times.

That’s at least how it went down for me. Let’s take a look at how well the Hot Toys Avengers Captain America really stands up in a full-blown review.

Click on the pictures for a full size image.

Packaging

The packaging is very similar to what Nick Fury and Hawkeye came in. It is a very basic box with a nice picture of the character on the front and wrapping around the side of the box.

The colors are far brighter and more extreme than we saw with Nick Fury and Hawkeye though. They fit well with Captain America too, red, white and blue.

Once you slip the sleeve off there is a window style box revealing the figure inside. You don’t really get much of a view of the figure at this point though because he is wrapped up in so much plastic for protection during shipping.

All of the packaging is very collector friendly, you can remove everything without damaging any part of the package. What 1/6 scale package now a days isn’t collector friendly though?

Once you have taken him out of the red box you will be at the first layer of accessories. This will give you a very rough idea of what is included with the figure. I will go more in depth with the accessories further down the page.

After you get the figure out then you get to the final layer of the package. This is where the best accessories lay. The shields! The battle damaged shield looks amazing. If you have any of the other Captain America figures the shield looks great with them. (I don’t have any of them but I saw pictures!)

Sculpt

You can expect that both of the head sculpts be as good if not better than what you would normally expect from Hot Toys. They are absolutely incredible.

The sculpt with the helmet on has the “A” indented, along with the wings on both sides. Both of the sculpts have some crazy pores on Chris Evans face if you look close enough, I don’t know if you will be able to see it in the pictures.

The level of realism that Hot Toys brings to the table is always getting to be more. I didn’t think it was possible.

Accessories and Costume

The costume that Captain America comes in is movie accurate and is extremely tight to his body. The “A” on his helmet is centered and the star on his chest is centered also. This was something that I was scared was going to be crooked, but it turns out was actually done right.

His belt is slightly weird. There is a little plastic snap in the back where it hooks on and then there is also 2 hooks on the back where you hook the belt together. It can be kind of hard to get the belt to stay on tight. I just pulled the belt down on his hips a little bit more and haven’t really had any problems with it.

He comes with about 9 different types of hands for a variety of different activities. 2 fists, 2 relaxed palms, 2 throwing palms, 2 palms for holding shield, and my favorite pointing hand. He just has 1 pointing hand but it is beyond cool. It is like what would be used as the “I want you for the U.S. Amry” posters. With all of those different hand positions it will be hard to find one that he doesn’t come with that you would need.

The Chitauri weapon is also a pretty cool accessory, but he just looks ridiculous with it on his arm. I saved him from the embarrassment and didn’t include a picture of him with it (instead, I put a picture of that hilarious hood). To attach the weapon you remove his hand and attach the gun to his wrist peg. Like I said, he just looks ridiculous.

I mentioned the hood. I don’t know why it was included but it was for when you are using his normal head sculpt. The hood attaches with 3 plastic snaps inside the collar of his shirt. The can be hard to snap on, I don’t know why Hot Toys didn’t develop something easier than this.

His 2 shields are equally hard to put onto Chris Evan’s arm. The instructions say that you should slide one strap onto the forearm and feed the other strap through the hand of the figure (see pictures). It is pretty hard to do if you have big fingers. Both of the shields look great and the normal one is extremely shiny.

Paint

The paint job goes along with the phenomenal sculpting job. Remember all those pores? All of those pores had to be painted, and they were done perfectly.

The eyes and teeth also have the human gloss to them. To go along with that gloss is the redness just like your eyes most likely have. It is rather creepy how well done the paint is on this figure.

Articulation

Since is costume is so tight to his body is articulation is limited a little bit by this. His shoulders can’t go much above shoulder level and his thighs can’t lift up much past parallel with the ground. His hips and shoulders are really the only joints that are restricted by his costume. All other joints you can expect full range of motion.

Overall

This is my favorite figure that Hot Toys has released so far in the Avengers line-up. The detail in the paint and the sculpt is phenomenal. The costume that Captain America is wearing is brighter in person than the pictures are probably presenting. This guy really gives you the wow factor that a real collectible should give. He has 2 head sculpts and a fair amount of accessories making this guy worth the price tag even if you have purchased some of the other Captain America figures by Hot Toys already. Avengers Assemble!

Ordering

If you are interested in ordering this figure then you need to act fast. He is still in stock with Sideshow, but who knows how long that is going to last for. All of the previous Avengers figures have sold out and are now on Wait list. Do you think that they are really going to get a figure on Wait list? I don’t.

UPDATE: if you are interested in collecting this figure, your best bet is eBay. Click this link to: search eBay for this Hot Toys Captain America 1:6 Scale action figure.
