Hot Toys Avengers Age of Ultron Hulk Sixth Scale Figure is ready to SMASH
One of Marvel’s most popular characters is about to smash his way back onto the big screen when Avengers: Age of Ultron debuts in US theaters on May 1, 2015. Based on the upcoming film, the Hot Toys Avengers Age of Ultron Hulk Sixth Scale Figure was announced.
I can’t tell if it’s Hot Toys or Marvel, but they always seem to know how to grab a vulnerable collector’s wallet right out of their pocket. When I first saw the Age of Ultron figures on display, I was like “I don’t think I’m going to need to re-buy all of the core Avengers since I have them from the first film.”
Boy was I wrong.
Apparently Hulk’s skin color has changed from film to film. Who would have guessed, right? Here’s a comparison of the 2 Hulk 1/6th scale figures:
The new version of Hulk features new head sculpt(s) and new paint.
Now the question is if Hot Toys just changed Hulk’s skin to garner more money from collectors that already have the first Hulk, or is it Marvel making subtle changes to the characters so they can bring in a ton of new money for their merchandise from all licensees?
Either way, the more important question that you should be asking yourself is whether you need to buy Hulk again if you already have the original Avengers version? That question is actually quite hard to answer, since there are going to be 2 different versions of Hulk – regular or deluxe.
Regular Set
The movie-accurate collectible figure is specially crafted based on the image of Hulk in Avengers: Age of Ultron featuring a newly developed screaming head sculpt with rolling eyeballs, and a specially painted muscular body.
Deluxe Set
The movie-accurate collectible figure is specially crafted based on the image of Hulk in Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. This deluxe set specially features the two newly developed angry and screaming Hulk head sculpts with rolling eyeballs, a specially painted muscular body and a finely sculpted interchangeable “Hulk smash” pose upper body.
Do You Need To Rebuy Hulk?
At first glance, I would have suggested that you save yourself $300+ by just purchasing a set of Hulk’s new shorts on the secondary market. However, after looking at it more and more, you are probably going to need to buy Hulk all over again.
This new version is going to be coming with 2 head sculpts (deluxe version only), a new paint job, and if you get the deluxe set you can finally pose Hulk doing his signature “smash”. I’ve tried to pose the old version of Hulk doing a Hulk smash, but it honestly doesn’t even look close to the smashing pictures above. Without the deluxe set, you can basically just raise Hulk’s arms straight up, not over his head like the images show.
With all that being said, if you are content with your Avengers Hulk then you don’t actually ‘need’ to buy Hulk again. You just need to buy him if you want the best version of him, which is clearly that deluxe set!
Pre-orders aren’t quite up yet, but if you just head on over here and SMASH F5, pre-orders should appear in no time, but only if you get angry!
UPDATE: Pre-orders are now available here.
