Hasbro Star Wars Black Series Return of The Jedi 40th Anniversary New Reveals.

Just yesterday Hasbro revealed more figures that would be joining their Return of The Jedi 40th Anniversary lineup on the Retro card backs. Yesterday they revealed Paploo, Bib Fortuna, Stormtrooper, Chewbacca, and The Emperor.

Most of these are re-releases with Paploo who first appeared in that Heroes of Endor SDCC set, Bib Fortuna was released in the main line just recently and The Emperor was recently released in the archive line. The only new figures are Chewbacca who has a newly sculpted head and the Stormtrooper doesn’t have a holster. This is a good lineup of figures but I’m a little disappointed with Chewbacca & The Emperor.

Chewbacca is based on his look throughout the film where his hair was more down which is accurate to the film but he has the leash sculpted around his neck from Jabba’s palace. He only had it on for those scenes and never had the choker on for the rest of the film. And for The Emperor, it’s just a straight repack of the retail and archive release. Which is really disappointing. Hasbro has announced that Boba Fett in this line is a repack of the deluxe release with all his accessories.

So Hasbro could have packed in an extra head for Chewbacca and given The Emperor interchangeable lightning hands and a smiling head when he’s using Force lightning. Those accessories from the Emperor’s Throne set have never been re-used yet which is a shame as it’s been a few years since that release and it’s impossible to get it at a good price on the secondary market for those who didn’t get it.

We’re still waiting to see Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader & Endor Rebel Trooper in this line. I know some fans are saying why isn’t Hutt Slayer Leia in the line? Well, she didn’t appear in the original lineup and first appeared in the Power of The Force line and other lines subsequently after that. Though that Black Series figure needs to be started from scratch and I do think we’ll see that version in Black Series line down the line.

These figures will be going up for pre-order later today.
