It managed to be drawn out for a few weeks, but with the reveal of General Mayhem yesterday, the G.I. Joe Collectors Club has officially shown the entire 2015 G.I. Joe Convention Boxed Set “Peril in Paradise”. Featuring the G.I. Joe Tiger Force team facing off against the sinister Iron Grenadiers, this 15 figure set dips into all different eras of G.I. Joe history. We see reproductions of unproduced and produced 80s toys, as well as new versions of figures released in the 21st Century. Along with this, the Collectors Club has also revisited some of their own products from 10 years ago, developing modern takes on their own creations, General Mayhem and the Iron Anvils.
Toy designers Boss Fight Studio had a hand in developing the looks for the Iron Anvils, Metalhead, Tiger Force Stalker, and General Mayhem himself, building new head sculpts and the formulas for the figures themselves. All of these figures are extremely successful, in my mind, giving us some new elements and some vintage inspiration.
Some of the other figures are somewhat more hit or miss, with Big Brawler not quite hitting the mark, and Dial Tone looking like an ill-fitting mish-mash of a few previous versions. As usual, though, the set looks best when it’s all assembled together.
