Eagle Force poised for triumphant return in 2015
As most children of the 80’s, I had a long, illustrious list of favorite toy lines. At the top was, of course, G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, which I still label unequivocally as the best toy line from that golden age. A popular animated series, a fantastic (and best-selling) comic book, not to mention a vast and storied toy series featuring action figures, vehicles, and any sort of associated licensing. Of course Transformers, MASK, and Masters of the Universe all have their place in that lexicon as well.
I will fully admit, however, that I really didn’t have much knowledge or attachment to a line called Eagle Force, which was produced by Mego for launch in 1982. A line of smaller die-cast action figures with a military twist, Eagle Force had an extremely short shelf life, falling victim to Mego’s bankruptcy shortly after the line’s inception. For many years, Eagle Force has flown under the radar, not gaining much attention or notoriety for its place in the 80s run of great toy lines, but from the looks of things, it might be getting a bit more attention in 2015.
Fresh Monkey Fiction, hot on the heels of their successful Legendary Heroes Kickstarter campaign has committed to moving forward with an apparent Eagle Force relaunch in 2015! Looking at a dedicated page on Facebook shows some great interaction between Bill Murphy, the brains behind Fresh Monkey Fiction, and some fans of the franchise. In fact, Mr. Murphy has also enlisted the aid of toy design wunderkinds Boss Fight Studio to assist in figure design once the time comes.
At this point the scale and format of the upcoming Eagle Force relaunch are unknown, but based on clues and the involvement of Boss Fight Studio, one thinks that we might be looking at the early days of another 4″ scale modern military toyline. Time will tell. While you wait, check out the Mego Museum’s excellent run down of Eagle Force history, and make sure you keep watching Eagle Force Returns on Facebook for the latest updates.
