If you are a follower on my Twitter account you have probably seen that I have scored the Target Exclusive Avengers 8 Pack. This pack was previewed long ago on my site and now it is finally here just in time for the holidays and the release of the Avengers on DVD and Blu Ray! Let’s take a look at the Target Exclusive Avengers 8 Pack Figure Review!

I didn’t buy any of the Avengers figures that have been hitting the market over the summer. I did grab some of the Walmart exclusive 6″ Avengers figures but I am still missing Hawkeye and Hulk. I’ve decided to keep them MOC for a later date. It’s been a hard summer resisting all of the 3.75″ Avengers figures in all of the stores though. It seems like just about every store you walk in has at least something related to the Avengers movie. Though, now that this 8 pack has come out I can say that the wait has been worth it.

Packaging

The packaging for this 8 pack is HUGE. You defiantly won’t miss it if you are in the store. It does have the same general look of all of the other Avengers figures that have been released though. On the top right and left there are panels with the characters featured nicely. Along the bottom it reads 8-pack Avengers figure collection and “Special Value”. This my friends is truly a special value. You are getting 8 figures with accessories for just $50! I just couldn’t pass that kind of a deal up. Of course there is also the only at Target sticker on the front. I do like the huge window on the front. You are going to want to use this window to your advantage. Most of the packages I have come across have had terrible paint. Check all of the figures carefully! Mine aren’t too bad, Black Widow just has a mark on her face, but I don’t really like her that much anyways.

On the back of the box each of the figures are shown again. The package tells you what each of the figures comes with though I don’t know why Nick Fury says he comes with 2 blasters when one is glued on his chest. Along the right you have Hasbro trying to sell you on some other products. Nothing really cool there.

Target Exclusive Avengers 8 Pack Figure Review

Also, not pictured but going down the sides of the box are all of the characters kind of like on the top corners of the front. It looks really good.

Overall I like the packaging. I like that the box isn’t really box-shaped. I think that the back of the box is missing something. The figures are just floating in some blank white space. Maybe a movie scene or some art would do the trick I think.

Hulk

When you first take a look at the Hulk in the pack you just think to yourself “what a terrible Hulk”. Well for me, that’s exactly how I felt when I saw him. Once I was able to get him out of the package though I was able to like him a little bit more.

Sclupt

The sclupt is a little bit different then some of the other Hulk figures that I have picked up but I like it. The more I handle him the more a like him. His head sculpt is pretty detailed, as you can see his deep eye sockets and his teeth. All of his proportions seem pretty spot on. One thing I do like about him is his super defined toes. He also has some really big feet, which is nice for some easy posing.

Paint

There really isn’t that much paint on this guy but where there is, it seems well done. His teeth/mouth are painted straight and his blue eyes look great in the deep eye sockets. He has a look on his face that you just don’t want to get in his way or you’ll be sorry. I did see one in the store where the paint on his pants was messed up a little bit so I suppose you should check that out.

Articulation

Hulk has something really cool in his articulation. He has a spring-loaded device in him that allows him to Hulk smash things. It is in his shoulders and both arms are attached to it. You can put each of the arms at different angles if you want too. For example, one arm could smash something while the other arm just stays at his side. Or you can smash something with both arms at the same time. Really it’s a pretty cool device.

As for articulation he has:

  • Ball joint head
  • Swivel/hinge shoulders
  • Swivel/hinge elbows
  • Ab crunch
  • Swivel/Hinge hips
  • Swivel/Hinge knees

All of it seems to work nicely and Hulk really doesn’t need much more articulation than that. He’s a lot of fun with the spring-loaded arms and the perfectly sculpted hand to grab Loki… lets just say Loki got dominated.

Loki

Ah and then there’s Loki, the brother of Thor, and the son of Odin. This Loki is a little bit cooler than I have seen him some other times in 3.75″ form. This guy actually looks like Loki in the Movie. That’s exactly what people want when they are buying Avengers action figures.

Sculpt

The sculpt of Loki is pretty detailed for a 3.75″ figure. There are a bunch of details like buckles and small sculpting details in his suit. Overall his sculpting defiantly captures the Loki from the movie and fans should love this guy.

The biggest disappointment for me was that he comes with his staff but he can’t hold onto it! His left hand is sculpted as a fist so there’s no way that he can hold it with that hand and then his right hand is just way too loose. You just have to prop it up when you pose him with it. It always has to be touching the ground.

I do like the way the cape was sculpted. It looks as if there is wind or Loki was just moving. The cape is glued on along with the outer shirt on his costume.

Paint

For the most part I can say Loki was painted well. There is some slop on his arm, but I guess that’s ok. There is quite a bit of paint detail on Loki’s costume and it looks great. The gold paint is pretty shiny in the light. The costume colors match the movie pretty closely with a few differences.

Score:

Target Exclusive Avengers 8 Pack Figure Review

Articulation

Articulation is pretty similar for most of the figures but I will list it off for each one. Loki has:

  • Ball joint head
  • Swivel/hinge shoulders
  • Swivel/hinge elbows
  • Ball joint hips
  • Swivel at top of thigh
  • Swivel/Hinge knees

His head pretty much just moves left and right. I think that this guy would benefit most from ankles and wrists. Wrists mainly to help him hold onto that staff. It is really awkward to position his arm to go with his staff because of the way his hand was sculpted.

I do really like the hips and knees though. they work very nicely. It would be nice to see Marvel Universe figures get articulation like this in their lower bodies.

Iron Man

As much as I hate getting Iron Man packed up in large packages like this I actually didn’t really mind getting Iron Man this time around. This Iron Man isn’t half bad. The sculpt and paint are fantastic.

Sculpt

The sculpt for this Iron Man is great. I love the way that his right hand is sculpted. He looks like he is about to blast something. His left hand though, not so much. I don’t know where Hasbro was going with that one. Overall love the sculpt though for 3.75″ scale.

Paint

The paint on this guy is great too. All of the colors are a glossy color and look great in the light. I’m not too fond of the blue on his chest, but this time I’ll let it slide. Overall killer paint job.

Score:

Target Exclusive Avengers 8 Pack Figure Review

Articulation

Iron Man can do thing that you never would have imagined Iron Man doing. He can do the splits or even kick his own nipple! Kinda weird right? Well for articulation this guy has:

  • Ball joint head
  • Swivel/hinge shoulders
  • Swivel/hinge elbows
  • Ball joint hips
  • Swivel at the top of the thigh
  • Double joint knees
  • Pivot ankles!

Now there are some limits with his articulation. His head can look only a little bit up and down. It would be nice if it could look way up so you could do some nice flying poses, but I guess for now that’s out. His shoulders are limited on the outer movement due to the shoulder pads on the suit. This isn’t really a problem but I still wanted to point that out.

With his lower limbs there is pretty much no limits. His hip joints move however you want them to with ease. He has some nice pivot ankles do go along with his hips too. Very nice articulation overall, would just like more head articulation.

Hawkeye

Next up in the lineup is Hawkeye the world-class archer and marksman. This guy folks is probably the best archer known to man.

Sculpt

The sculpt for the most part is pretty movie accurate. It looks like Jeremy Renner, well at least as far as I can tell. There is a bunch of detail sculpted into the costume lines, seams and padded areas. The costume looks great.

He comes with just a bow for an accessory. No arrows at all! Not even one! If you have any G.I. Joes lying around or other Marvel Universe Hawkeye figures I suppose you could steal one from them.

Score:

Target Exclusive Avengers 8 Pack Figure Review

Paint

The paint for this guy is actually not half bad. There are a ton of places where mistakes could be common and I don’t see any. The S.H.I.E.L.D. Logo on his chest is sharp along with all of the buckles, clasps, zippers, etc. on his costume. Around his neck area on the back I don’t know if all of the figures are like that but it looks like mine is missing some paint. Oops! I did get a good chuckle out of the numbers going up the boot on his left leg.

Articulation

Articulation for this guy kind of lacks for what you would want for archery poses. He has:

  • Ball joint head
  • Swivel/hinge shoulders
  • Swivel/hinge elbows
  • Ball joint hips
  • Swivel at top of thigh
  • Swivel/Hinge knees

Hawkeye pretty much needs wrist and ankle articulation to make any of his poses look realistic. I still do like the figure though.

Black Widow

Next up is Black Widow. Black Widow was played by Scarlett Johansson and I must say that the figure looks pretty accurate. The paint job isn’t that great but the figure is still and ok figure.

Sculpt

The sculpt on Black Widow is great. Movie accurate? Yes. There are some light details in her costume, but nothing spectacular. Her hair looks odd to me. Maybe it’s just me too though, I don’t know?

She does come with 2 pistols. The pistols are made of a really rubbery plastic. Its weird at first but then you love it because she never drops the pistols again. The holsters are also amazing when she’s not holding onto the weapons.

Paint

The Paint for Black Widow is very very simple. I don’t think that it is possible for it to be any simpler. Her entire suit is black and there is a few silver spots here and there. Hasbro still messed up one of the silver S.H.I.E.L.D. logos on her shoulders! Defiantly look her over if you don’t want her do have bad paint. Mine has a black spot on the face.

Score:

Target Exclusive Avengers 8 Pack Figure Review

Articulation

Articulation for Black Widow is kind of hard. Since her limbs are so small it is hard to get her to say in any pose. I suppose if you use a figure stand you would have no problems. She has:

  • Ball joint head
  • Swivel/hinge shoulders
  • Swivel/hinge elbows
  • Swivel wrists
  • Swivel/hinge hips
  • Swivel at top of thigh
  • Double joint knees
  • Swivel/hinge ankles

She has more articulation than most of the other figures so there is really nothing to complain about. The wrist articulation is nice to help manage her weapons.

Nick Fury

Nick Fury is the leading agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. and he pretty much is a bad ass. You can’t mess with Samuel L. Jackson. This Nick Fury figure is pretty good and in 3.75″ scale.

Sculpt

While the sculpt really looks nothing like what Nick Fury looked like in the movie he still looks pretty cool. I dig him. His body is actually a re-issue of Winter Soldier from the Captain America Movie line with some new parts added. While I’m not a huge fan of the sculpt since it’s not like the movie I still like it.

He comes with one pistol that fits nicely on his leg holster. His jacket does easily come off!

Score:

Target Exclusive Avengers 8 Pack Figure Review

Paint

The paint is pretty much black on black. The boots are a glossy black and then the rest of the body is a dull black. There are some silver accents here and there for buckles and buttons. It is a pretty basic outfit. There is something about his right eye that looks off to me. I can’t put my finger quite on what though.

Articulation for Nick Fury is pretty good. He has:

  • Ball joint head
  • Swivel/hinge shoulders
  • Swivel/hinge elbows
  • Ball joint hips
  • Swivel at top of thigh
  • Double joint knees
  • Swivel/hinge ankles

I would really like to know how Hasbro decided what figures in this set would get what articulation. Why does Nick Fury get ankle articulation and not Hawkeye? I don’t know. Overall it is pretty good for Nick Fury and there isn’t much that needs to be changed.

Captain America

Here we finally come to my favorite of all of the Avengers. Captain America! Captain America is pretty good overall but he could use a little bit of improvement in articulation.

Sculpt

The sculpt for Captain America is spot on movie accurate. He has a new head sculpt and he doesn’t have the holster on his leg. With this head sculpt he has covered ears, which I am sure a lot of people are going to prefer. Lots of people I know want to pick up this 8 pack just for this figure. He might just be worth it.

Paint

When I was in the store I was looking at CPT specifically if he had any mistakes. So this guy for sure is good to go. All the lines are crisp and the sliver has a nice shine in the light. If you have picked up any of the CPT figures over the summer then you pretty much know what to expect.

Score:

Target Exclusive Avengers 8 Pack Figure Review

Articulation

Articulation is the one thing that I wish he could have a little bit more of. He does have:

  • Ball joint head
  • Swivel/hinge shoulders
  • Swivel/hinge elbows
  • Ball joint hips
  • Swivel at top of thigh
  • Double joint knees

This figure would be absolutely amazing with wrists at the least. Then he could at least hold his gun at a half decent angle. If he hand ankles then he would be hands down the best figure in the pack. Even without either of these I think he might be the best figure in the pack.

Thor

The last figure in the pack is Thor, Loki’s twin brother. Well not exactly his twin brother, but his brother none the less. Thor looks pretty movie accurate.

Sculpt

The sculpt for Thor is nice. His costume looks pretty movie accurate and he might be the second best figure in the pack but I haven’t decided that yet. The cape, like Loki’s, it is pretty well done. I like the way it looks.

He does come with one accessory. His hammer. He doesn’t have a super tight grip on it but it is enough so he doesn’t drop it.

Score:

Target Exclusive Avengers 8 Pack Figure Review

Paint

The paint on his face looks a little bit weird. His eyes look like they are looking off to the right side of his head and he looks like he has a frowning/disappointing look on his face. I don’t think I like it that much. The rest of the paint on the costume looks great.

Overall

Overall I would recommend this pack to anyone. Even if you have picked up some of the figures over the summer you may want to check out this 8 pack. As said before the value is defiantly there. You are going to want to check the paint on the figures in the store before buying though. I went through quite a few packs until I found one that I was satisfied with buying. I am glad that I held off buying any of the Avengers figures at all and waited for this super value pack to be released. Now it has finally arrived at Target!

Ordering

Where can you get the Target Exclusive Avengers 8 Pack? You can get it on Target.com for $49.99 but you don’t get free shipping until you spend $50. I wouldn’t recommend you going this round anyways because of the paint on the figures. Go to your store and find the pack that you are satisfied with buying.

You can try to find one on eBay if you can find a seller that gives some nice pictures. You might be able to pick up single figures there too even. Check out the listings below:

If you liked this set for $50, you'll be extremely jealous to know that I picked it up last Sunday for $45. It'll be waiting for my son Christmas morning!

    •

You know what, I saw this the other day too when I was in Target. I was a tad bit mad. Get it while you can if you have missed out on the rest of the single packed figures though!

This is such an awesome review, I'm definitely thinking I'll get this now. I went online just to find out any info I could on this set, and I am so happy I cam across this website. You should do reviews on Star Wars figures too!

It is a really great set if you have missed out on the single pack figures. Target did have the set for just $45 for awhile at some stores. Not sure if it went back up to $50 again now though. What Star Wars figures are you interested in seeing reviews on?
