Final Thoughts

Overall, if you are a big fan of speeders and Star Wars like myself, I think Rey's Speeder Bike is a must. But if you are particular about your paint jobs, then it may be a pass.

NOTE: These figures were provided to us by the manufacturers for review purposes. Our opinions are our own, and we speak only for ourselves, and not for the manufacturer.

Ever since Star Wars: The Force Awakens was first announced, collectors everywhere felt an awakening. I am sure that all the collectable/toy companies felt an awakening of their own when they thought about all the money they were going to make. But regardless of whether the nerds paying or the companies receiving that money were more excited, Action Figure Fury was gearing up for the first wave.

I have been waiting to get my hands on some of these figures but having a little 6-month old nerd to take care of can put a hamper on collecting much of anything other than dirty diapers and bags under your eyes. Then, after speaking with Hasbro, we were sent a sample of the “Star Wars: The Force Awakens 3.75-Inch Vehicle Rey’s Speeder Bike (Jakku)” (whew!) to review.  Check out our video review of the speeder here:

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Rey’s Speeder Bike Review – Packaging

Package-front

The package for Rey’s Speeder Bike is pretty cool for what it is. The front shows Rey driving the speeder with one hand and holding her staff with the other away from an explosion . . . classic. The side of the package, on the left, shows a close-up of Rey in her Jakku outfit holding her staff and, on the right, a couple of logos. The back shows both the speeder and Rey as well as some instructions and advertising for the other pieces in this set. Oh, and don’t forget the 50 or so warnings and fine print. You would miss it if it wasn’t there and you know it!

One thing that needs to be pointed out is that the plastic holder for Rey’s staff is too short for the staff. This may be only on my figure but it jacked up the staff pretty bad. It was pretty bent up wich you can see in some of the pictures. I fixed it about half way through taking the photos by using a hairdryer to heat it up and once I had straightened it out I dipped it in ice water. Be VERY careful! Doing this can easily damage your paint so take it slow and do it at your own risk. The figure and speeder were very easy to remove. They used some kind of twine instead of the wire twists which I thought was way better. I would give the packaging a 3.5 out of 5 due to how the staff doesn’t fit

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Rey’s Speeder Bike Review – Sculpt

Keeping in mind that this is a 3.75-inch figure, the sculpt was very nice. The head sculpt is great. Her head is wrapped in cloth, which in a dessert has to be terrible, and they managed to show where her nose is with a little bump. That’s the attention to detail I love. They also did great on the Speeders sculpt. The whole, uh, cockpit?… The whole cockpit looks great as far as the sculpt. The seat and dashboard are detailed and the part were her feet sit have small pegs that stick into the bottoms of her, you guessed it, feet. That is cool cause it really helps to keep her feet flat against the plate.

One thing that truly bothers me is that they stamped the speeder with copywriting text. That alone wouldn’t be all that bad if they did it on the bottom or somewhere unintrusive but that is not the case here. The stamped it on the side. Right on the bottom yellow stripe. Since I do like the sculpt other than the copywriting stamp I would say its a 4 out of 5.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Rey’s Speeder Bike Review – Paint

Star Wars The Force Awakens 3.75-Inch Vehicle Rey's Speeder Bike (Jakku) Review

This is the most disappointing part of my review. The paint was less than satisfactory. Rey has several spots where the color of her clothes bleeds onto her skin paint, boot paint on her skin paint, and skin paint on her boot paint. On her right shoulder, there is a brown spot and there is not any brown near by. The speeder is just about the same. The silver paint on the salvaged parts bleeds onto the body paint pretty bad and that happens in several other places. The paint is a 3 out of 5.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Rey’s Speeder Bike Review – Articulation

Star Wars The Force Awakens 3.75-Inch Vehicle Rey's Speeder Bike (Jakku) Review

Star Wars The Force Awakens 3.75-Inch Vehicle Rey's Speeder Bike (Jakku) ReviewI have always believed that with enough patience and time, you can get any figure into some badass action poses. That belief was heavily tested with this figure. Being that it is a 3.75-inch figure, close to the same size as the original figures sold in 1977, it would be unfair to expect Hot Toys level articulation. So while it was hard to get into any kind of action pose, maybe even a little infuriating, I maintain that it only adds to awesomeness in the case of these small classic figures!

Rey’s head can twitch a little if you really try but is mostly held in place by the fact that her mask connects to her sash. She has some rotation in the shoulders and her left arm gets more than her right due to, you guessed it, her sash. Her legs can rotate at the hip to the point of almost doing the splits so long as her right leg is the one sticking forward. The right leg gets stopped when straight down by the bag Rey wears.

I did not expect the Speeder to have any points of articulation other than the laser gun they added on the top. I was wrong. It’s not much, but the two orange panel flaps by the thrusters can move. Even though it’s a small moment that can’t really be seen, I love it. I love getting surprised with more options. Call me easy. You can also remove the windshield and cargo net though I am not sure why you would. After I took the pictures I realised you can prop the staff above the cargo net on the speeder. This was a great addition and I feel stupid for not knowing about it before considering there is a picture of it on the box . . . Millennials, am I right?

Overall I would give the articulation a 4 out of 5.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Rey’s Speeder Bike Review – Accessories

So the only real accessory that came with this set was Rey’s staff. As I said earlier it came pretty bent up. The poor thing looked like a Rancor was using it as a toothpick! I got it to look pretty straight by using the hairdryer method I mentioned earlier but remember to be careful not to heat it up too much or too fast or you may damage the paint. Quick thanks to ShartimusPrime from YouTube for being my source for that method. The staffs paint is a simple black with white grips which I thought was nice. it also has a back strap that you can get onto Rey but if you put it over her head it bends the staff so it’s up to you to decide if it’s worth it. There was only one accessory and it was bent up so I am giving this a generous 3.5 out of 5.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Rey’s Speeder Bike Review – Overall

I really enjoyed this figure. I love the look of the speeder and this costume for Rey so I was pretty excited to get it. The paint was pretty bad though and that may have just been mine, but all the same, it happened. The staff didn’t fit in the packaging which caused some damage. However I really liked the head sculpt and the extra articulation in the speeder was great. The fact that Rey fits on the speeder so well is also pretty cool. With all that in consideration, I would give this figure a 3.5 out of 5. It’s a cool figure and worth the 25 bones to get it.
