Star Wars Movie Realization Samurai Darth Vader Figure gets new Images from Bandai Japan
This Movie Realization Samurai Darth Vader was inspired by artist Takayuki Takeya and incorporates the traditional Japanese samurai style with iconic Star Wars armor to create an epic hybrid warrior.
Right off the bat I must say that I have mixed feelings about this figure there is some parts that I like and there’s some parts I don’t, most notably the gold medallion that is on his forehead.
Though it’s incredibly well detailed for a 7″ figure. Bandai has successfully married samurai components with Darth Vader. I particularly like the detail in the armor on the arms and chest; it’s outstanding you can even make out parts of his chest control panel. The gauntlets and boots look like a very traditional samurai, as does the helmet. Though, I’m not really a fan of the teeth. I love the collar and cape; I love how it’s frayed at the bottom. I also like how the Imperial Emblem is incorporated into the design of the figure, except for the medallion on his forehead.
His lightsaber also has a samurai feel to it as the hilt is reminiscent of a katana hilt and the blade itself is in the shape of a katana blade. The hilt can also be stored on his waist like a katana. I should add that the blade is removable.
He also comes with some interchangeable hands. I can see that there is a pair of fists, a pair of gripping hands and a pair of force hands. He also features over 50 points of articulation.
Bandai Japan has quite a few heavy hitters to be joining their Star Wars line-up soon, featuring characters like normal Darth Vader, Stromtroopers, and C-3PO. They also have a bunch of other Star Wars items incoming, all of which you can see here.
This figure will be released in December and will cost approximately $84.00 if you want to get it. Unless an US retailer is going to be importing the figure, you may be stuck to import it on your own due to licensing restrictions.
UPDATE: You can still find an alternate version of this figure on Entertainment Earth, for $89.99.
