Star Wars Black Series SDCC Boba Fett And Han Solo In Carbonite Review
While the Star Wars Black Series SDCC Boba Fett And Han Solo In Carbonite set may not be as "exclusive" as it sounds, it's still a really cool set to have. The SDCC Boba Fett set is a really great set, but reality is that you don't need to pay 4x the SRP for him on eBay (unless you are dying for the packaging). If you can, just wait until both pieces are released later on down the line.

If you haven’t noticed yet I have pretty much been reviewing all of the 6 inch Star Wars Black Series figures backwards. Don’t ask me why, that’s just how I did it. The SDCC Boba Fett was technically the first figure in the new 6 inch Star War Black Series line. Don’t worry though I saved the best for last! Is this Star Wars Black Series SDCC Boba Fett And Han Solo In Carbonite Review going to convince you that you need to pay 4x the SRP for him on eBay? Let’s find out if he’s really worth it.
SDCC Boba Fett’s packaging is different from all of the rest of the figures in wave 1 because he’s “exclusive” to SDCC 2013. He comes in a really nice box style packaging. There is a sleeve that holds the top of the box on, but just slides off with ease. I really love the design of the box, looking just like Boba’s helmet, but in black and white of course!
The back of the box features another one of those black and white images and some text…
The notorious bounty hunter Boba Fett prepares to deliver the carbon-frozen Han Solo to Jabba the Hutt.
“He’s no good to me dead.”
Once you pop the top of the box off you can see Boba Fett displayed nicely in a black plastic tray. Each of his accessories are annotated, which is very cool. One thing that I thought was odd was the fact that once you cut the plastic strings holding him in, he’s out. There’s no putting him securely back in. I would have liked the option to put him back in, especially with such amazing packaging.
The sculpt for SDCC Boba Fett is pretty good, but could use some improvements. He doesn’t suffer from the concave chest like the Sideshow Boba does, but his forearm pauldrons aren’t nearly as detailed. For me that was one of the best parts about the Sideshow version of Boba Fett.
The paint helps complement the sculpt on this figure. Where there is a battle damaged area, there is also some sliver paint showing that it is damaged. All of the rest of the paint is pretty tight on this figure, especially on areas where it would be easy to mess up like his forearms or accessories.
Boba Fett is articulated just like the rest of the figures that we have seen so far in the 6 inch Star Wars Black Series. He has:
- Ball joint head
- Hinged neck
- Swivel/hinge shoulders
- Swivel/hinge elbows
- Swivel at the forearm pauldrons
- Swivel/hinge wrists
- Ball joint waist
- Ball joint hips
- Swivel thigh
- Double joint knees
- Swivel/hinge ankles
I was expecting a little bit of restriction in his hip area, and maybe his shoulder area due to the costume design, but really the only thing you have to worry about is his hips. The pouches on the front of his hips do restrict his movement slightly, but you can still get deep poses such as kneeling or crouching out of him.
Han Solo In Carbonite
And then we come to the piece of the set that everyone wants. Han Solo in Carbonite. Word on the street is that the Wave 2 Boba Fett is the exact same figure as this one, and that Han in Carbonite piece is going to be seeing another release at some point. Hasbro still hasn’t said how, just that he would be coming. So really, the only “exclusive” thing you got by getting the Star Wars Black Series SDCC Boba Fett And Han Solo In Carbonite set, is the packaging. Great…
Anyways, the Han Solo piece has a really great sculpt not only on the top/front but on the sides as well. It’s painted a metallic silver color, looking like it jumped right off the screen. The best part about this piece is that it comes with a really epic display stand that allows you to display the Carbonite piece standing up or “floating” on its side. All I need now are the Stormtroopers! Hurry up Hasbro!
While the Star Wars Black Series SDCC Boba Fett And Han Solo In Carbonite set may not be as “exclusive” as it sounds, it’s still a really cool set to have. I really feel ripped off buying this set if wave 2 is going to contain the exact same Boba Fett figure and somewhere down the road Han Solo in Carbonite is going to be released. Maybe the stand will be omitted from the next release?
The SDCC Boba Fett set is a really great set, but reality is that you don’t need to pay 4x the SRP for him on eBay (unless you are dying for the packaging). If you can, just wait until both pieces are released later on down the line.
If you just can’t wait for a normal release of these figures then you can buy the Star Wars Black Series SDCC Boba Fett And Han Solo In Carbonite on eBay. Happy hunting!
