One of the latest Marvel Select releases from Diamond Select is finally here, Marvel Select Storm. She is complete in her classic costume and comes packaged with a diorama base depicting a portion of the Danger Room. If you have picked up Cyclops, Colossus and Gambit then your in luck, because her base will be connectable with theirs. If you are one of those completists there is also a variant version of the Marvel Select Storm Figure that you will be able to get your hands on, though my opinion the normal version looks way better than the variant.

Ororo Munroe has seen quite a few figures through the years, probably close to as many as Wonder Woman and Catwoman. My favorite look for her is definitely the classic costume, hands down. Let’s take a closer look into the Marvel Select Storm Figure Review.

Packaging

The packaging that the Marvel Select figures come in is the “Oversized Collector’s” packaging. It is still a little bit weird to me to call it that. I know a lot of collectors struggle to have enough room to display/store their collections. How are you going to display these oversized boxes?

None the less the packaging is really great. I love the Marvel Select style packaging. It is always consistent, and always has great graphics. If you are a MOC collector and have the display space, it will look great displayed.

The front of the packaging has a huge window displaying the figure and all of the accessories really well. Along the right side it reads the character’s name and the Marvel Select logo. On the left side of the box there is a large piece of art featuring the character. It is slightly different than the figure inside, but that’s ok.

On the back of the package there is a bio for the figure and a photo of the figure outside of the packaging. Below that you can see some of the other Marvel Select figures that are available (Green Goblin and Ultron [Reviews coming soon]) and the variant version of Storm with short hair. She really does look better with long hair.

Sculpt

She’s in her classic costume and her cape is made of some really solid plastic. The cape is rather heavy and the stand that she comes with is really helpful while posing her. You can pose her without the stand, though it will require A LOT of patience.

I like the pose that the cape is in. It is almost like it is blowing in the wind, or like she is in the middle of using her “Storm” powers. It was sculpted to sit perfectly on her shoulders too.

The sculpt on the body also has some really defined details in her muscles and body shape. This is one of the best Storm sculpts that I have ever seen.

The danger room comes in 3 parts that snap together pretty quickly. The saw blade and the flame just twist into holes that were pre-popped out. The whole thing can be assembled in about 2 min. My only complaint about that is that the saw blade is made of soft plastic and it looks wavy now. You can bend it flat, but it just gets wavy again after a few min.

Paint

The paint on the figure is pretty good. She has solid white hair and solid white eyes. I love the solid white eyes. The gold paint on the cape and her wrist bands is really shiny, along with the black on her entire costume. DST also matched the paint from her lips to the paint on her finger nails. That’s a pretty nice touch don’t you think? Do all women do that now a days?

There isn’t too much paint slip up on the figure. There is a little bit of overspray on the Danger Room and a slight slip here and there on the figure.

Articulation

Articulation is where this figure struggles, but that is where most every female action figure struggles. She has:

• Ball joint neck
• Swivel/hinge shoulders
• Hinge elbows
• Swivel wrists
• Swivel/hinge hips
• Double joint knees
• Swivel/hinge ankles

Since the cape is made of solid plastic, it restricts her shoulder articulation quite a bit. If you pop off her head and remove the cape then her shoulders actually have full range of motion. With the cape on her shoulders can only move the slightest bit.

The other area that really struggles on this figure is the hip region. The hips don’t really have much movement at all. This is dictated by the sculpt, though this is usually the case on a lot of female action figures. I don’t think I would want to trade the sculpt for more articulation.

Overall

This figure is really a good release from Diamond Select. Storm comes with a diorama base of a portion of the Danger Room, which you could easily use with other action figure scenes. As I said before this could be one of the best Storm figures that have been released. She does have some things that could be unlikeable, but they are easily forgettable in the fantastic sculpt. I would recommend picking this figure up even if you missed Cyclops, Colossus and Gambit.
