Review: Hasbro Marvel Legends Guardians of the Galaxy Rocket Raccoon

Review-Hasbro-Legends-Guardians-of-the-Galaxy-Rocket-Raccoon-frontAs much as I’m looking forward to seeing Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, your friendly neighborhood jman hasn’t been all that impressed with Hasbro’s Legends Guardians figures.  When I saw the production shots of the figures, I just wasn’t feeling them.  Still I had hope…

Not enough to pre-order the figures anywhere, mind you.  Because, I’m not to big a fan of pre-ordering figures.  For just the very reason, I’m about to relate to you.

Over the last couple weeks, the Guardians merchandise has finally been hitting the stores.  I’ve managed  to see all the Legends figures, so far, except for Nova and Gamora.  And?  Just not impressed. Star Lord really doesn’t look like Chris Platt.  Sure…you could keep the masked head on the body, but…meh.  As for the others…Drax looks ok and Iron Man is cool enough, but…it’s yet another Iron Man figure.  I need another Iron Man figure like I need another Batman figure.

Which brings us to Rocket Raccoon.

I know.  I know.  I know what you’re thinking.  You’re thinking:  “My friendly neighborhood jman…did you really pay $19.99 (or upwards of $22.99 at Toys R Us) for that Rocket figure?”  And the answer would be…Yes.  I did.  There are a couple saving graces to Rocket that kinda make up for the price point.

He comes with that oversized gun you’ve seen him toting in all the trailers.  And this…mechanical looking thing that I have no clue what it is, but I’m sure it has something to do with the movie.  It may make the figure that much better…but at the moment?  It kind looks like a piece of furniture.Review-Hasbro-Legends-Guardians-of-the-Galaxy-Rocket-Raccoon-8

The biggest plus of this figure, though, is the Build-A-Figure Groot bust (for a lack of a better term).  Even if you’re not planning on getting the rest of the Groot figure, you can still mount Rocket on him.

And therein lies the pickle of the Marvel Legends Guardians of the Galaxy figures.  Groot.  And if I wasn’t such an optimist, I’d say that Hasbro knew this all along.  The Groot figure is really the figure I want.  And it would probably make getting/having Rocket here that much better.  But, not liking the other figures all that much…really puts a damper on getting the pieces needed for Groot.

Review-Hasbro-Legends-Guardians-of-the-Galaxy-Rocket-Raccoon-11What to do.  What to do.

eBay?  No thanks.  The pieces for Groot are astoundedly overpriced.

What to do.  What to do.

For the moment, I’m just settling for what I’ve got:  Rocket mounted on the Groot bust.

So…all that being said, is Rocket worth it?  That really depends on you.  If you’re a completist…duh.  Yea.  If you’re looking to complete Groot, then yea.  But, if you’re buying Rocket because you’re a fan of Rocket?  You may be a little disappointed.

Get it?  Little?

very nice! thanks for the share.

i’ve vowed to stay away from any and all Guardians trailers, extended trailers and 17 minute previews, henceforth. i want to go into this movie as pure as possible.
