Marvel Select’s Disney Store Exclusive Unmasked Spider-Man Review
So…what’s the final verdict? Putting my love of exclusives aside, the figure to get is this Unmasked Spidey. The fire-fighter helmet with the normal version is cool, though. Do yourself the favor, if you’ve got the money, you’re probably gonna want them both.
To search eBay for this figure:
Up for your consideration today we have Marvel Select’s Disney Store exclusive Unmasked Spider-Man figure from Amazing Spider-Man 2 made by Diamond Select. Man. Is it me or do the names of these figures just keep getting longer and longer?
In any case, Unmasked Spidey here is based on Diamond Select’s mass distributed Amazing Spider-Man 2 Spider-Man figure. Both figures share the same body and are packed with the same multiple sets of hands and the two same spider webs to swing from.
So, what exactly is the difference between the mass distributed Spider-Man and the Disney Store Exclusive? Excellent question, grasshopper. The mass distributed Spidey comes with a fire fighter helmet and hose nozzle to partially recreate Spider-Man’s battle against Electro from Amazing Spider-Man 2 (spoiler alert?!?). Our Disney Store exclusive unmasked Pete comes with an alternate masked Spidey head.
The figure itself is what you’ve come to expect from Diamond Select Toys. The alternate hands and head pop off easily, which is rather nice. Likewise with putting on the spare head/hands; no worries about whether or not you’re applying to much pressure to cause the hand stems to break. The hands (and head) snap right into place.
Spidey also has all the necessary articulation a Spider-Man should. Although, my figure had some really loose leg joints, which made it hard to pose the figure. Now, I’m not sure if this is a problem related just to my figure or if it’s a line specific problem. It doesn’t take away from the figure, certainly not enough for me to break him in half out of frustration, just something to look out for when posing yours.
So…what’s the final verdict? While the firefighter helmet is a nice accessory, it’s not like there’s a Marvel Select Electro figure to recreate the scene with. Sure, you could use Hasbro’s Marvel Legends figure, but at an inch shorter, it’s not like Legends’ Electro will be in scale with Select’s Spidey. Were talking realism, folks. Realism. Putting my love of exclusives aside, the figure to get is the Unmasked Spidey. Ahhhh…who am I kidding? The fire fighter helmet is just too cool. Do yourself the favor, if you’ve got the money, you’re probably gonna want them both.
UPDATE: This figures is sold out at retailers. If you want to purchase this scoot on over to eBay and search for this exclusive Marvel Select Spider-Man Unmasked action figure.
Before you click on out of here, don’t forget to check out the lastest “mini” show. It’s a hoot (or so I’ve been told).
