Lego Batman: The Joker Steam Roller (76013) Review
While we all don’t really need any more Batman(s) and Batman related items, the addition of Batgirl, the new Joker and Joker goon is hard to resist. The Steam Roller puts this set over the top, making the whole thing worthwhile.
To Order on Entertainment Earth:
As the new 2015 Lego Superhero sets begin to hit store shelves, let’s take a look at one of the more popular sets of 2014, Lego Batman: the Joker Steam Roller (76013).
This 486 piece set is made up of two vehicles (the Steam Roller and Batwing) and comes with 5 figures (Batman, Robin, Batgirl, a new Joker figure and a Joker Henchman)
The best part of this set? Has to be, hands down…the Steamroller. Like the best of other Lego models, it’s a clever build. It’s certainly not the most complicated, but the use of Lego parts is, well… clever. Especially the construction of the Joker’s smile. It’s a simple build, really. But, as I’m putting it together I say to myself: why didn’t I think of this? And the answer to that question? I’m just not that inventive, I suppose.
Along with the huge, multi-colored roller (that conveniently rolls), the Steam Roller also fires two smiley face Joker gas bombs.
Then there’s the Batwing. I know. I know. I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking: we need another Bat-vehicle like a hole in the head. Now, I’m not necessarily defending the addition of another Bat-vehicle, but…this one isn’t too bad. And this is where we as adult collectors have to keep in mind, that Lego is primarily a kid’s toy. And the kids? They love all things Batman.
That disclaimer aside, the Batwing is still an interesting build. The wings have a scissors effect; they open and close (so you can grab that baddie Joker and dump him off to Arkham). It’s also got the pre-requisite firing missiles, too. Just plain ol’ missiles for the Batman, though. He doesn’t have proprietary explosives like the Joker does, apparently.
So…what should you do? The set retails for $49.99. While we all don’t really need any more Batman(s) and Batman related items, the addition of Batgirl, the new Joker and Joker goon is hard to resist. The Steam Roller puts this set over the top, making the whole thing worthwhile. And look, if it bothers you that much, you can always give the Batman and the Batwing to a little person you may know.
The Joker Steam Roller is available now at all your local retail establishments and at the Lego Store.
UPDATE: If you want to pick yourself up one of these bad boys, you can still find the LEGO Batman Joker Steamroller on eBay for a nice price. You can also find one on Amazon, and Entertainment Earth also still has them in stock.
