Hot Toys Indiana Jones DX05 Sixth Scale Figure Review
Now this Indiana Jones figure was released quite awhile ago and is still available at Sideshow Collectibles, but that doesn’t mean that it is a bad figure at all. It just means people don’t know what they are missing. If you like Indiana Jones just the slightest little bit you are going to want to complete this entire review. The Hot Toys Indiana Jones DX05 Sixth Scale Figure is absolutely amazing.
Every time you pick up a Hot Toy you know you are going to be getting nothing but quality. That is no exception for the DX series. You get even BETTER quality when you read DX in the name. In this case you are getting more detail, more accessories, and a really impressive mini diorama.
Let’s rip this box open and take a took at the Hot Toys Indiana Jones DX05 Figure. (well, not rip)

The packaging that good old Indy comes in is a work of art in itself. The box is gigantic! It was made to look like aged leather and even has an image of Indiana Jones’ whip and hat on the front. It is secured by magnets and opens just like a book.
Just inside the first flap there is a silhouette of Indy with some text. The text reveals the plot of Raiders of the Lost Ark. I thought that was a very nice touch. On the other side there is a map of the voyage for the lost ark complete with a red line across the map illustrating the entire voyage. Hot Toys really went all out on the packaging. (The map is also removable!)
Once you remove the layer with the map on it you will reveal the figure itself. Also on this layer you will see Indy’s extra hands, his accessories, and his extra hair.
All of this of course is embedded in a thick layer of custom cut foam to fit Indy’s body.
Not pictured, but there is also 2 other layers of foam containing his other accessories. The fist layer below him contains his arab outfit and the staff of Rah.
The next layer down contains the opening scene pedestal for the fertility idol, his base, a stand, and the cardboard backdrops.
The packaging is very elaborate, there is nothing that you can’t love about it. It’s a display piece of its own!
The sculpt on this figure seems a little bit off. He still looks like Indy but it’s just not all there like it should be. The more that I worked with him the more he did grow on me though. There is still the stubbiness of the beard, not too overdone. He also has perfect eyebrows. He even has the scar on his chin too!
He comes with 2 hair sculpts – one for display without the hat and one for wearing the hat. Both look great and fit snug even with the PERS system. This is the first time that I have had the chance to work with the PERS system and it is absolutely amazing. It gives the figure so much more personality than without.
The accessories also have fine details. The 2 guns have moving parts, lettering on the staff of Rah, and the stitching on the gloves. The pedestal for the Idol even has extensive details with the moss growing all over it.
I was very impressed with all of the details featured on this figure.
Now my figure came a little bit damaged. I don’t know if you noticed the paint rub on his nose…(maybe that’s why Sideshow sent me this as a review sample). Aside from that, the paint job is phenomenal. Hot Toys always makes the human skin look so realistic it’s disgusting.
The Idol is plated to look like it is made of gold and the staff of Rah is also made to look like old gold with the red jewel in the middle. His gloves look great, giving them the feeling that they are made of leather.
Really there isn’t that much painted on the figure, but where there is, it was done with extreme accuracy.
Indy has a Hot Toys True Type body and really it can’t get much better than that. There is a little bit of restriction in his upper body movement, but you get over it quick with all of the accessories and realism.
The PERS system (Parallel Eyeball Rolling System) is great for giving Indy that extra expression. I can’t wait for other figures with the PERS system.
Like I have said above, the Hot Toys Indiana Jones DX05 comes loaded to the teeth with accessories. He comes with 2 guns, a hat, 5 pairs of hands, a whip, holster, shoulder bag, notebook, sand bag, staff of Rah, Fertility Idol, Idol base, separate base, stand, and a reversible backdrop.
The guns are both what he used from the movie. They both have moving parts. The revolver has a revolving chamber and moving hammer and the other one has a sliding muzzle and removable magazine. Makes for some fun pictures.
The hands that he comes with are an open pair, trigger finger pair, and fisted pair. He also has gloved versions of them as well. Works well for multiple display options.
His whip is actually made of real leather and has a small thread on the end for the “cracker”. His shoulder bag has pockets inside and closes via magnets. His holster and whip also have magnetic closers as well. The magnets function surprisingly well, I wish Hot Toys would use them more.
His notebook has real paper pages and a rubber band to keep it closed. How much more realistic could you get?
The play set part of this figure is really neat too. The backdrop is reversible from the opening scene to the map room scene. The base is also reversible. He also comes with a standard Hot Toys sixth scale Indiana Jones figure stand (not pictured).
If you are an Indiana Jones fan this is a must buy. Sorry, but you really have no choice. There are just so many great accessories, the sculpt is pretty great (it will grow on you), and this is the best Indy figure that has been made to date. With this figure you are getting an entire play set! A pretty high quality one at that. Hot Toys has brought Indy to life!
