Marvel movies always tend to be pretty good, and I’m a huge Marvel fan so I was more excited than ever to see Iron Man 3. I must say that I was a little disappointed with the movie though. Not saying it was a bad movie, It just wasn’t as good as I was expecting. All the promotion of the movie probably got me a little over-hyped up. Iron Man 3 did get me pretty excited for more Marvel figures from Hot Toys though. The latest to arrive stateside is the Hot Toys Avengers Loki Sixth Scale Figure. He’s seen a few delays, but now he’s finally here and just waiting for a proper review. Let’s take a look!

Packaging

The packaging that Loki comes in is very similar to the other Avengers figures that Hot Toys has produced. The box has an outer slip sleeve, and you can slide it off and reveal the figure inside of a nice window box. I like the image of Tom Hiddleston that they picked for the box, it’s much more fitting for the character than what we saw for the Black Widow box.

Once you open up the completely collector friendly box, you will be greeted by Loki, still concealed in layers of plastic. The first layer contains the figure and most of his accessories. I know that helmet looks awesome, but don’t touch it until you read the instructions. (more on that later)

The Hot Toys Loki figure is so awesome that he comes with 3 trays of accessories. Yes three. The 2nd layer contains his 2 staffs and his stand and the 3rd layer contains the instructions and the cape. The instructions are very important if you don’t want to damage your figure.

The cape is compressed in the bottom of the final tray and it still came out wrinkle free. It was a nice relief knowing that I wouldn’t have to take it to the dry cleaners to get it to look nice.

Sculpt

Hot Toys is almost always spot on with their head sculpts, but for Loki I think that there are a couple of things that are off, just slightly. His hairline doesn’t seem near high enough for my taste and I think he’s missing some wrinkles around his cheek area. It almost goes unnoticed until you actually look up Tom Hiddleston as Loki on Google.

The expression on his face works, but I would have liked more. As it is now it just seems a little blank. It just doesn’t say villain to me.

Also, my figure had a problem with his gripping hands. I don’t know if this is a problem for all the figures that have been released, but it was really noticeable on mine. You can actually see the line where the thumbs were glued onto the rest of the hand. It’s bad.

Paint

As with the sculpt, the paint is usually pretty solid on Hot Toys figures. This figure was a little bit of a let down on the skin tone though. I’m not saying it’s terrible, it just doesn’t look as well as some of the more recent Hot Toys releases. The pictures make it look not so bad, but in person his skin tone is a tad bit pale.

The paint on the costume looks fantastic, but more on that in the costume section below.

Articulation

The Hot Toys bodies are some of the best that you can get you hands on as far as 1/6th scale go. Loki’s movement is limited a little bit in the upper and lower body due to his costume. It’s not going to restrict the posing too much, but you will have a few problems.

Accessories

Like I said above, Loki’s packaging came with 3 different trays of accessories but the trays were kind of empty. You still do get some good accessories though.

He comes with 9 different hands, 2 gripping, and 7 more for using each of the various accessories. The instructions even picture the Tesseract Container that came with Thor and there are even hands for holding onto that.

Then he comes with the handcuffs that weren’t shown in the initial prototype images of the figure. They don’t open, but they can be used by removing the figures hands and placing them on from there. It’s definitely easier to remove the hands and wrist pegs before you put the cuffs back on.

He also has the muzzle accessory to accompany the handcuffs to help depict his captured look. It just simply slides over his mouth and stays there nicely.

Then there are his weapons. He comes with 2 different daggers (sorry no pictures of them) and 2 different staffs. He has both a long and short staff, both of which have very nice paint jobs and a blue crystal on the end.

Finally we get to his helmet and cape. These guys can be pretty tricky to put on the figure and I recommend that you read the instructions before you try to do anything at all with them. The helmet comes apart in 2 pieces and you have to put each piece on his head and snap it together while it’s on his head. There are little clasps on both sides and at the back. The clasp on the back of mine broke, which happened with very little pressure. The helmet still snaps together without a problem, but you will want to watch out for that.

The cape can also be really tricky to put on. You have to stuff the ends into his shoulders and snap some little plastic clips onto his shoulder. The clips are pretty thick, so you shouldn’t have a problem with them breaking. It will just take time to stuff the ends of the cape into his shoulders to get the look that you want.

Costume

As I said above the paint on Loki’s armor are absolutely spot on. The underlying cloth part of the costume has great detail and are tailored to fit the figure perfectly. There are no bulky areas, it is just tight in some areas. That is screen accurate though.

The boots on the figure are probably the best part. The are 2 piece boots, allowing for full ankle articulation. This is optimal if you want to get some deeper poses out of the figure without extra support.

Overall

I have been waiting for Loki for quite some time now and smashing my face on my desk every time I’ve read “delayed”. Now that he’s finally here I can say that he’s probably pretty close to my favorite, if not my favorite, Avengers figure from Hot Toys.

There are a few things that are off about him, but I think that the amazing costume work and the thrill of finally getting my hands on the villain of the line, really make this guy a must have figure.

My guess is that he may pop back in stock pretty soon for a short while. (don’t quote me on that) They are offering free shipping, putting him at the best price available.

When NECA announced their First Blood Rambo action figure, the fans went wild for it. So wild that it was in instant sell out on NECA’s end and they are bringing you another version of him. The NECA Survival Rambo Figure is based on the action scenes when Rambo seeks shelter in the wilderness when he is being pursued by local police.

I like toys.  Who doesn’t, right?  Even the people who think they’ve “grown up” like toys.  You put a pile of brand new toys (all boxed up or carded) in front of a “grown up” and when no one’s looking?   They’ll be straight flashbacking to Christmas morning past.

I’m mostly into action figures.  But, I don’t want to put myself in a box (as it were) either.  I branch out a bit into Lego and such, but when it comes right down to it, I’m about action figures.  My point in admitting all this, is that I don’t necessarily have to be a collector of one particular line to buy any given figure.  I consider myself mostly a “collect what I like” collector.  I’m not a completist by any stretch of the imagination.  Likewise, if there’s a figure of a particular character that I’m into, but, looks all around terrible, I won’t buy it.

Which brings us to…Hulkette(s).  Before I saw this figure, from the first wave of Marvel’s Legends 2013 line, I wasn’t all that familiar with the “Hulkette(s)”.  I am familiar with the “Rockettes”, though.  But, I believe that’s another post entirely.

I know She-Hulk (Jennifer Walters, cousin of Bruce Banner).  And I’m vaguely familiar with Red She-Hulk.  But, these Hulkette(s)?  I had a feeling that this was a Hasbro created name.   So, I did a bit of research (not much, though) and consensus appears to be just that.  “Hulkette(s)” is a name concocted by Hasbro.  When it comes down to it, though, who we are dealing with is Red She-Hulk.  Good ol’ Betty Ross, Bruce Banner’s one and only true love.  Awwww…

Red She Hulk, Hulkette(s), Betty Ross…whatever name you want to call her, she’s a great figure.  She’s got all the right articulation to make her wicked poseable.  If I’ve got to get nitpicky, she’s painted a glossy type red, which is ok.  But, she has black lips which look a little off against the glossy red paint.   But, like I said, that’s just your friendly neighborhood jman being nitpicky.

Hulkette’s part of the Hit Monkey Build-a-Figure line.  She comes with Hit Monkey’s headless, armless torso.  Which, is a little creepy, especially considering how articulate his feet (lower hands?!?!?) are.  She also comes with a gigantic sword, which she’s totally known for in the comics (She’s not.  I’m just being sarcastic).

All in all, Hulkette’s a very solid outing for Hasbro and Marvel.

A couple of months ago we were able to take our first look at the S.H. Figuarts Daft Punk action figures, but there weren’t very good pictures of them. I mean, Tamashii Nations did give us a full body shot of each of the figures. I do give them that, but we couldn’t see what the back of these guys looked like. Now we can.

These new images couldn’t have arrived at a better time either, Daft Punk’s new album “Random Access Memories” just came out today. They stand about 6 inches tall, feature fantastic articulation for a variety of poses, and the helmet with have a shiny metallic finish for enhanced realism.

Look for these figures to be available around November/December 2013 and priced at $44.99 each.

All through the last week The Bridge Direct gave it’s fans a chance to win the SDCC 2013 Hobbit Exclusive Azog Figure, that is, if you could guess that Azog was going to be the exclusive. They gave out 3 different clues through the week, but now they have sent out the details for this figure. Check them out here:

San Diego Comic-Con 2013 Exclusive Hobbit Collector Figure Azog

Our 7″ tall Orc Commander Azog comes in a numbered, limited edition of 2,600 pieces. Azog is depicted as he appears in the prologue scene from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. In the battle between the dwarves and an army of orcs to reclaim Moria, Azog holds the severed head of the dwarf King Thror up in victory. The figure comes with interchangeable hands – the right hand that holds Thror’s head can be replaced with a hand capable of holding either his dagger or mace, and the left hand can be switched with the prosthetic spikes that replaced the hand he lost to Thorin’s sword.

NOTE: The official photo will not be released until the 13th of June.

Now I must say that before The Bridge Direct gave out any clues for the figure, I was hoping that the exclusive was going to be Smaug himself. I mean the next movie coming up is going to be The Desolation of Smaug, so why can’t we have figure of him?

I suppose that another Azog will have to do though. I can’t find an image of what Azog looked like in the “prologue scene”, but if anyone does, tweet me @actionfigfury.

The countdown to SDCC 2013 is really starting to ramp up with the latest DC Collectibles SDCC 2013 Exclusives reveals. Today via USAToday, they revealed 4 of their Comic-Con exclusives, and we have all the details for you right here.

First up is an Aardman Superman action figure from DC Nation. He stands more than 6 inches tall and comes packaged with none other than a cookie. I guess that could explain why he has such a super-sized waistline? He is going to be priced to sell at $24.95.

If you are a lover of the Super Best Friends Forever shorts on Cartoon Network’s DC Nation animation block, then you are going to love this 3 pack of superheroines containing: Supergirl, Batgirl and Wonder Girl. It is going to be priced to sell at $49.95.

With a Superman SDCC exclusive you are going to have to have a Batman: Arkham City SDCC exclusive too. There is going to be a Hugo Strange action figure that is based off of the scientist from the game that is price to sell at $29.95.

The the fourth and final release from DC is going to be a “Superheroes of Green Lantern” four-pack of 3.75″ action figures. It will contain Sinestro in his Green Lantern colors,Arkillo, Black Hand, and Dex-Starr. It will be priced to sell at $49.95.

Look for these figures exclusively at SDCC this July 18-21 at the San Diego Convention Center. I’ll see you all there. (Hopefully the lines aren’t too big!)

SDCC 2013 is upon is in only 58 days, and the information about the Funko SDCC 2013 Exclusives has been released. While none of this information actually tells us what any of the exclusives are going to be, it gives you some hints to help you figure out some of the exclusives for yourself.

Funko is allowing you to pre-order the exclusives ahead of time. Here are the details:

• There are a total of 57 Funko SDCC 2013 Exclusives, you must buy the entire lot.
• The price for the entire lot is $799, a total savings of $150 off of the actual retail cost of the items.
• The price includes shipping if you live in the US.
• Payment can be made via PayPal or by calling Funko directly.
• The items will ship around the time of San Diego Comic-Con, about mid-July.
• These items are only going to be available for sale until July 1, or until the items sell out, whichever comes first.
